Spelling

I chose spelling word lists 1 and 2 because I imagined my student would be able to spell

most of those words correctly. I dictated the words to the student, and he did well with word list

1 but already had a few words spelled incorrectly. I moved to word list 2 because he spelled less

than five words incorrectly on list 1. List 2 is where things started to go downhill. As I said when

I administered the WADE, he knows the sounds letters make but when they are combined with

other letters into words, he gets confused and either adds or subtracts letters.

Writing
I dictated sentences to the student and had him write down the sentence using his best

spelling skills. Looking at his spelling and word order, we can already tell his sentences do not

make sense after the first one. Not only is it his spelling and word order, but his handwriting

makes it difficult for anyone to read. Something we need to work on is correct letter writing and

word order. Perhaps, the subject verb agreement would be a good place to start. This way, the

student will be able to self-assess and recognize if his own sentences make sense.
