in informational text.

Sequence of activities -The first half of class will consist of letter cards, sight words
drills, vocabulary work, and phonemic awareness training.
-Add a new vocabulary word to the board

-Review Black History Month and why we celebrate it.


-Review that we are learning about athletes who are African
american so we can participate in learning about Black
History Month.
-Review who we talked about last week
-Introduce Andrew McCutchen and the chapter book about
him
-Explain that this week we will be learning about Andrew
McCutchen, our third and final African American athlete for
Black History Month. We will also be creating a timeline of
his life together.
-Each day we will read two chapters from the Andrew
McCutchen chapter book.
-Discuss what a biography is. Explain that this chapter book
is a biography of Andrew McCutchen’s life and
accomplishments.
-After reading the first chapter, discuss key details/main
ideas (write on the board what you come up with). Repeat
after reading the second chapter.
-Add his birthdate to the timeline.
Differentiation I will write the main ideas/key details that we come up with on
the board so that the group can refer back to them.

I will give each student three talking cubes to use when they
would like to make an observation or inference.
Assessment Based on their contributions to the discussion about key details
and main ideas, I will assess their reading comprehension skills.

Modification/Accommodation (Generalized across the week):


We will be using a graphic organizer (the timeline) to organize and consolidate thoughts onto
paper. We will utilize talking cubes to control conversation. Anthony will sit between Armany
and Cole to avoid conflict with Bobby.
