GOAL: Readmg Comprehension and Vocabulary

RATIONALE: The main strategy in these lessons will be reading comprehension but we will
also go over some vocabulaiy words to assist.
PENNSYLVANIA STA TE CORE STANDARD(S):
Standard - CC.1.1.3.E Read with accuracy and fluency to support comprehension: • Read
on-level text with pwpose and understanding.• Read on-level text orally with accuracy,
appropriate rate, and expression on successive readings. • Use context to confirm or self -correct
word recognition and understanding, rereading as necessary.
STEPS OF EXPLICIT INS1RUCTION:
• Before we start chapter 2 we will start the Junie B. Jones and her Big Fat Mouth
vocabulary word search https://wordmint.com/public puzzles/3 8131
• As we are looking for words, we will talk about each vocabulary word and identify if we
know what they mean or if we will need to wait to find them in the book to figure them
out
• If it seems necessaiy, we will highlight the periods in chapter 2 before we start to read it
• We will read chapter 2 the same way as yesterday, by taking turns Anessia and myself

• I will assess if she is stopping at periods with or without the highlighting (depending on
what was decided at the beginning/during the lesson).
• I will assess if she learned the vocabulary words at the end of the book
