Occlusion
-when the maxillary teeth are in contact with the
mandibular teeth

-only the mandibular central incisors touch one tooth

Parafunction:
Bruxism- grinding teeth when sleeping; grinding at night
Dynamic- pertains to jaw, muscles, TMJ, and
surrounding structures of teeth
Static- fixed; pertains to teeth

138 contacts
12 for anterior teeth
126 for posterior teeth

Trauma from occlusion -> traumatic occlusion ->

therapeutic occlusion

FlrnceGrnte
(important^^ nasa board exam)

a) working bite/ functional occlusion; latero-trusive

occlusion (jaw moves to the left and a little forward)
b) centric occlusion
c) non-working bite/ non-functional occlusion/ balance
occlusion
Bennett movement- lateral movement with a little bit
of moving forward/backward (protrusive/retrusive);
latero-trusive
Bennett angle- medio-trusive

Eccentric Occlusion- the teeth are in contact when the

mandible moves
*Functional occlusion= working bite (cusp to cusp)
*Non-functional occlusion= non-working bite=balance
occlusion
Functional Occlusion:
*Lateral functional occlusion- move your jaw sideways
*Protrusive functional occlusion- move jaw frontwards
and backwards

FlrnceGrnte
Ideal occlusion-anything made by man; made up

*ideal teeth or postiso ung upper teeth

5) No diastema or spaces

FlrnceGrnte
When mesiobuccal cusp of maxillary 1st molar falls on
the embrasure between the mandibular 1st molar and
2nd molar

*mesiobuccal cusp of maxillary 1st molars fall on

embrasures between lower 2nd premolar and 1st molar

FlrnceGrnte
-developmental spaces
Mandibular central incisors and 2nd deciduous molars (in
contact with one tooth only)

FlrnceGrnte
Deciduous dentition without spacing^ will result to
crowding

3 types of terminal planes:

-straight/flush
-mesial step
-distal step

overjet (horizontal)
Overbite (vertical)- measure from incisal edge of upper
and lower
Deep bite-more than the measurement than the
overbite; the maxillary anterior teeth are almost
covering the mandibular anterior teeth
Normal overbite- 1-3mm (acc. to doc Toledo)
Normal overjet- 1-3mm

FlrnceGrnte
Another factor: growth of child

FlrnceGrnte
Agenesis- absence of teeth
Genesis- presence of teeth

mesiodens ^

2 types: (curve of spee)

Dual curve-
Rainbow curve of spee-

2nd deciduous molar na hindi nag-resorb ung root

Ankylosed (nakadikit sa bone)

FlrnceGrnte
Interocclusal space present between maxillary and
mandible when mandible is at rest position
2-5 is the normal freeway space

Centric relation- the jaw

Centric occlusion- teeth

Working movement- laterally
