Μια κλινική μελέτη έχει βρει ότι προσθέτοντας μια απλή τροφή στη διατροφή μας έχει την
ικανότητα να επαναφέρει την υγεία μας, και μειώνει/αντιστρέφει τον κίνδυνο καρδιακών
παθήσεων. Η μελέτη δημοσιεύτηκε στο περιοδικό Atherosclerosis και οι ερευνητές έχουν
επιβεβαιώσει ότι ο χυμός ροδιού μπορεί να λειτουργήσει προληπτικά και να αντιστρέψει τα

Η μελέτη έδειξε ότι ο χυμός ροδιού μπορεί αποτελεσματικά:

Να μειώσει τα επίπεδα του οξειδωτικού στρες
Να μειώσει ένα χημικό διαβιβαστή (χημειοκίνη) που σχετίζεται με τη φλεγμονή στις αρτηρίες

Να μειώσει την καρδιακή διεύρυνση

Αυτή δεν είναι η πρώτη μελέτη του είδους της. Το 2004, το περιοδικό Clinical Nutrition
δημοσίευσε τα αποτελέσματα μιας κλινικής δοκιμής τριών ετών, και διαπίστωσε ότι η
καθημερινή κατανάλωση χυμού ροδιού αντιστρέφει τη στένωση της καρωτιδικής αρτηρίας έως
και 29% μέσα σε ένα χρόνο.

Οι ευεργετικές ωφέλειες του ροδιού είναι πολλές, αλλά ίσως είναι λιγότερο γνωστές από άλλα
φρούτα και λαχανικά. Σε περίπτωση που χρειάζεστε επιπλέον λόγους να προσθέσετε το ρόδι στη
διατροφή σας, διαβάστε μερικές από τις ωφέλιμες ιδιότητές τους:

1. Τα ρόδια έχουν πολλά σημαντικά θρεπτικά συστατικά

Ένα φλιτζάνι με σπόρους ροδιού περιέχει 144 θερμίδες, 7 γρ. φυτικές ίνες, 3 γρ. πρωτεΐνη,
βιταμίνη C, βιταμίνη Κ, φυλλικό οξύ και κάλιο. Τα ρόδια έχουν υψηλή περιεκτικότητα σε
αντιοξειδωτικά, που βοηθούν στη πρόληψη της βλάβης των κυττάρων από την οξείδωση.

2. Τα ρόδια περιέχουν περιέχουν δύο ισχυρές φυτικές ενώσεις

Οι πουνικαλαγίνες είναι εξαιρετικά ισχυρά αντιοξειδωτικά που περιέχονται στο χυμό και τη

Ο χυμός από λάχανο είναι μια παραδοσιακή θεραπεία για τα πεπτικά έλκη, δεδομένου ότι
υποστηρίζει την βλεννογόνο εσωτερική επένδυση του γαστρεντερικού σωλήνα. Ο χυμός αυτός
είναι επίσης πλούσιος σε σουλφοραφάνη, ένα αντιοξειδωτικό που στοχεύει στο ελικοβακτήριο
του πυλωρού (Helicobacter pylori), ένα βακτήριο που έχει βρεθεί ότι είναι βασικός αιτιολογικός

Μειώνει την «κακή» χοληστερόλη

Σε μια ιαπωνική μελέτη για τις ιδιότητες του λάχανου στην μείωσης της χοληστερόλης, οι
επιστήμονες συγκέντρωσε μια ομάδα 77 ενηλίκων με ήπια έως μέτρια αυξημένα επίπεδα
χοληστερόλης. Οι μισοί συμμετέχοντες έπιναν δύο μεγάλα ποτήρια από ανάμικτους χυμούς
φρούτων και λαχανικών, με τον χυμό από λάχανο να είναι το κύριο μέρος. Οι άλλοι μισοί έπιναν
επίσης δύομεγάλα ποτήρια ανάμικτων χυμών, που δεν περιείχαν χυμό από λάχανο. Στο τέλος
της περιόδου μελέτης διάρκειας 12 εβδομάδων, τα μέλη της πρώτης ομάδας έδειξαν σημαντική
μείωση των επιπέδων “κακής” χοληστερόλης στο αίμα τους, σε σύγκριση με τα μέλη της
δεύτερης ομάδας.

Αντικαρκινικές ιδιότητες

Τα σταυρανθή λαχανικά έχουν προληπτικές ιδιότητες ενάντια στον καρκίνο. Τα φυτοχημικά στο
λάχανο -και τον χυμό του- ενισχύουν το ανοσοποιητικό σας σύστημα, το οποίο βοηθά στην
καταπολέμηση κάθε μορφής ασθένειας, συμπεριλαμβανομένου του καρκίνου. Τα φυτοχημικά
αυτά αναστέλλουν την ανάπτυξη και την εξάπλωση των καρκινικών κυττάρων και

Παρενέργειες

Ο χυμός αυτός δεν έχει σημαντικές παρενέργειες, αν και ορισμένοι άνθρωποι μπορεί να έχουν
μια αύξηση στα εντερικά τους αέρια. Εάν αυτό αποτελεί πρόβλημα για εσάς, δοκιμάστε να
αραιώσετε τον χυμό από λάχανο με νερό σε αναλογία 2 μέρη νερού για κάθε 4 μέρη χυμού.
Μπορείτε επίσης να κάνετε το χυμό πιο εύγευστο προσθέτοντας χυμό μήλου ή χυμό από 1-2
καρότα μαζί με το λάχανο.

so may lead to lethal consequences.

What you eat plays a huge role in your weight. Neil Martin said that “you cannot outrun your

How can you safely lose weight without losing muscle mass?
First let me get this out of the way. Having the right BMI (body mass index) equates to a healthy
body.

In fact, this is a better indicator than body weight because it helps you know how much body fat
you have.

So rather than putting in a lot of fruit in your recipes, make sure to use mostly vegetables and
only use fruit as a sweetener because fruits are high in fructose.
Though it is better than synthetic fructose like corn syrup, fructose is still fructose and isn’t
utilized by the body like glucose is.

When you drink fruit juice, the absence of fiber means that fructose is absorbed by the blood
stream almost immediately and the liver gets overwhelmed.

Since the body’s cells in the body don’t utilize fructose guess what happens to it? It becomes
stored fat – fatty acids and bad cholesterol. This equates to weight gain.

Add some protein and (healthy) fat


This is a concept that I wasn’t familiar with until I read Drew Canole’s post here.

I used to think that protein powders are nasty tasting but on the contrary, there are brands that
make great tasting protein powders that when combined with the right vegetables will give you a
filling and nutrition rich drink that will also supply the body with the protein that your muscles
feed on.

Chia seeds are another rich source of protein that you can add to your juice not only for the
nutritional benefits but also for a contrasting texture. This is one of the main staples of a lot of
smoothie recipes so why not add them to juices.

An ounce of chia seeds (approximately two tablespoons) contains 4 grams of protein. It is also a
rich source of antioxidants, Omega 3 fatty acids, fiber, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium.

The best part is it only has 137 calories per ounce and out of the 12 grams of carbohydrates, 10.6
grams is dietary fiber which isn’t digested so when you do the math, the true carb content is just
below two grams which is pretty low.

The fiber content makes chia seeds in itself filling and it has another side benefit – it feeds good
bacteria to your gut and keeps it healthy.

An alternative to chia seeds would be flaxseeds. This is also a rich source of Omega 3 acids and
protein. If you’re adding this to your juice, get the grounded variety so it is much easier to use.

The Recipes
Mean Green Toxin Flusher
This green juice helps system flush away toxins because
cucumber is a diuretic that stimulates your liver and kidneys to flush away excess liquid. Parsley
helps with the intestine’s digestion.

Both kale and parsley are rich sources of vitamin A, B, C and K so drinking this daily not only
helps with weight loss but also boosts the immune system.

Cucumber and apple make a great base for a lot of juice recipes. The Fuji apple adds sweetness
and cucumber has a lot of water content that dilutes the strong flavor of Kale.

Ingredients
 2 to 3 kale leaves
 A small handful of parsley
 Half a lemon (not peeled)
 1 medium sized cucumber
 1 medium sized Fuji apple

How to prepare
For people using a centrifugal juicer (use a wide mouth for this), stack up the 3 leaves of kale on
top of one another then put the parsley over it.

Carefully roll it like you would roll a lentil so it is packed tight.

Chop the cucumber in half then place the first half inside the juicer then juice part of it, not the
whole thing. Then add the rolled parsley and kale and the other half of then turn on the juicer.

This technique allows you to maximize the amount of juice extracted from the leafy greens.

Juice the apple and lemon afterwards. Lightly stir and drink.

Food fact: Cucumber is 96% water which makes it an ideal base ingredient in any juice recipe
and it only contains a miniscule 0.9% sugar and virtually zero fat so you don’t have to worry
about gaining any weight.

I’ll be honest here, I called this green not because it uses a


lot of green leafy veggies but the output will be green. In fact, the only green vegetable in this

Ingredients
 1 medium sized green apple
 2 to 3 handfuls of spinach (more if you’re brave or used to the flavor)
 Half a lemon (not peeled)
 Ginger root (one to two inches long, peeled)

How to prepare
Just in case you are using a vertical slow juicer and you’re using spinach with the stems still
intact try to chop them into smaller chunks (1” or so) so it does not clog.

For traditional extractors just roll the spinach up in a ball then sandwich it in between the two
halves of the apple.

Juice the ginger and lemon afterwards.

Start by juicing the green apple followed by a handful of spinach, cucumber, celery then carrot.
If you are using slow juicer remember to alternate the ingredients you feed in to maximize the
yield.

Start by juicing the Swiss chard leaves, ginger, orange, Fuji apple then romaine lettuce.

There is no need to peel the apple. If you are using non organic apple make sure to wash it well
to get rid of the pesticide residue.

Make sure to peel the orange because the peel is very bitter but make sure to leave the pity part
on.

Food fact: That unlike spinach and Swiss chard, romaine lettuce has low oxalate content which
makes this a great alternative for people who suffer from Urolithiasis or urinary tract stones.

Bitter Fruity Goodness

If you think that all fruits have high fructose content, thing
again. The fruits included in this recipe have low fructose content.

Pink grapefruit – 1.2 grams / 100 grams

Lime – n/a (in other words very low)

Pure unsweetened cranberry juice – (9 grams of sugar per 8 ounce cup)

Grapefruit is widely used in a lot of weight loss programs and has been known to also lower
insulin another fat causing hormone which means more pound shedding.

I called this the green juice and smoothie combo because I


combined juice with the avocado smoothie since you can’t juice an avocado.

This drink would be best taken in the morning before breakfast because it is filling and nutritious
at the same time. It is filling because you are basically one whole avocado with this drink which
will help you quell hunger pangs until lunch time.

Pineapple which has relatively high fructose content (4.8 grams per 100grams) is mainly used as
a sweetener to make this drink more palatable. You can add less if you feel that half a pineapple
is too much.

Avocado and pear have very low fructose content so you don’t have to worry about these two
fruits adding unwanted pounds.

Ingredients
 Half a medium sized pineapple (without the skin)
 1 pear
 2 handfuls of spinach
 One large cucumber
 4 celery stalks
 1 avocado

How to prepare
Make sure to peel the pineapple then chop it into quarters. It is okay to include the core.

Juice the pineapple, pear, spinach, celery and cucumber in a juicer then set aside.

Cut the avocado in half, take out the pit and scoop out the meaty part and place inside a blender.

Pulse until the texture is smooth then add the juice that you’ve set aside earlier then blend.

Drink immediately afterwards.

Food Fact: Even though avocado contains a lot of fat it isn’t saturated fat that harms the body. It

Red Protein Juice


I didn’t know that you could actually add protein powder to fresh vegetable juice. I got this idea
from Drew Canole of Fitlife.tv.

The recipe is actually simple he used two beets, a medium sized cucumber and protein powder.

Here’s how he did it.

To be specific he used Sun Warrior chocolate protein powder which tasted great with beet and
cucumber.

Ingredients
 1 small or medium sized beet
 1 medium sized cucumber
 2 to 3 tablespoons of sun warrior protein powder

Juice the beet and cucumber in a juicer

Pour the juice inside a blender (in the video Drew used a Nutribullet) then blend.
Drink immediately.

This drink has a nice combination of nutrients and protein


in it.

Collard greens aren’t as popular as spinach or kale but in terms of nutritional value we should

It is a rich source phytonutrients that help with our body’s detoxification.

Because according to Hippocrates “All disease begin in the gut” and modern research has been

A and C, calcium, beta carotene and iron. It is known to be a great anti-cancer agent because it
flushes away carcinogenic stuff from our body.

You could eat the skin but I’d prefer to grate it on your desserts, food or drinks. It will all boil
down on your preference. Remember if you’re planning on eating the skin make sure that you
are using organic, that way you don’t have to worry about pesticides going into your system.

Avoid eating the rind if you have kidney or gallbladder stones avoid eating the skin as it contains
high amounts of oxalates that can crystalize and become stones.

How to prepare?
You can do what I do and squeeze it on a cup of warm water but that’s messy and you’ll need to
exert some effort. To get more juice out of lemon that you could use on lemon water or as a part
of juice recipes you can use a lemon squeezer or juicer.
Another way to prepare lemon water is chopping them off in slices and soaking them in a pitcher
of water. This will help add to the flavor of water and help you drink more. Just make sure to
wash it thoroughly and scrub the rind.

If possible, avoid using the microwave

I’d avoid using the microwave to heat this because of the radiation that could possibly kill the
nutrients in this drink, if possible use a thermos and fill up 3/4’s of the cup with water (at room
temp) and the other 1/4 with hot water, that should do the trick. If you need to use the microwave
cover the cup with a small ceramic (not plastic) plate so it shields the drink from radiation

Can pregnant women drink this?


Dietitian Julie Redfern says that drinking lemon water can provide some relief from dizziness,
headaches, endema, and cramps. The American Pregnancy Association says that even lemon
scent helps provide relief to morning sickness. Only avoid this when you have allergies to citrus
or if you have ulcer. Make sure to consult with your gynecologist before making any diet
changes during pregnancy.

Finally, avoid lemon if


You have an ulcer or if you’re by chance allergic to it. It would be best to consult your physician
before consuming lemon if you think you may have these conditions.
