Course Title : TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT IN THE EDUCATIONAL
SYSTEM
Pre-requisite(s) : None
Number of Units : 3
Number of Hours : 54 hours

I. COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides PhD IN Education major in Educational management


students with an understanding of quality control and improvement systems. The
course includes study of topics related to quality management approaches,
design and implementation of quality-related procedures, and related
technologies. The focus of the course is on enhancing goods, services, and the
business environment.

This course introduces students to the concepts of Total Quality


Management(TQM), history, goals and objectives and the principles of TQM. The
course does not only introduce students to the concepts of quality assurance and
quality control, but also connects leadership, process owner- customer
relationships, employee engagement, and other topics to quality and customer
satisfaction. Students gain practical experience in decision-making and basic
troubleshooting techniques in relation to quality.

II. COURSE INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES

a. COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course, the students should be able to:

1. Demonstrate understanding on the importance of quality in


modern business scenarios to individuals, organizations, customers,
suppliers, and society.
2. Identify and describe the key components and challenges of total
quality management (TQM) and understand how organizations
approach TQM deployment.
3. Acknowledge the role of attitudes, beliefs, behaviors, and ethics on
quality.
4. Differentiate between internal and external customers and discern
perceptions of quality and the effect on customer relations.
5. Differentiate between quality assurance and quality control.
6. Distinguish different quality improvement strategies such as TQM,
ISO implementation of Lean Principles.
7. Familiarize the effectiveness and efficiency principles as related to
quality, productivity, and supply chain management.
