Standard Operating Procedures for dealing with Fire Alarm

Activation

1. Upon receiving a fire alarm signal, monitoring agent will attempt to contact the
appointed NLB Responsible Officers (RO).

2. Monitoring agent will attempt to verify and confirm status of fire alarm signal
within 2 minutes of alarm activation with NLB RO.

3. If no confirmation of false alarm is provided within 2 minutes of signal

received, Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) will despatch its resources
to site.

4. If confirmation is provided after 2 minutes has lapsed, monitoring agent will

inform SCDF to cancel the despatch of the resources if it has yet to reach site.

5. 3 types of response to be given to monitoring agent should RO be contacted:

a. Confirmed fire alarm – sign of flames or smoke showing from within
NLB site
i. SCDF resources will be despatched immediately
b. Need to verify – No obvious signs of fire thus RO would need to check
if the alarm is genuine.
i. No signs of genuine fire – no smoke or flame
ii. If verification by RO takes more than 2 minutes, monitoring
agent will dispatch SCDF resources once 2 minutes is up.
c. Confirmed false alarm – RO has confirmed that it is false alarm.
i. If no confirmation of false alarm provided within first 2 minutes
from alarm trigger, SCDF resources will be despatched

6. Do note that despite confirmation of false alarm, SCDF may insist on visiting
the site to confirm the cause of false alarm.
