You can always visit a certain website especially if you want to find an

In navigating the websites, it is important to check on its essential
features and their purposes to quickly look for the information you need.

5
Alright! You have already started the lesson proper. Let’s get to know
about the basic elements of the website when we are accessing the internet.

What Is It

Search engines like Google can get you on any website. As a student
who frequently uses the web as an information space, you learn to navigate
on the features of the websites to get quickly to the site you need.

Basic Elements: Hypertexts and Hyperlinks

Hypertexts and hyperlinks are the “glue” that holds the web together.
This feature allows electronic files on the web to be linked so you can jump
from one website to another website.

Hypertext is a text or phrase that links to another text on the website. It

is purely text in nature. Whenever you click on a hypertext, it always connects
to a related information.

Meanwhile, hyperlink is a link that redirects you to other web pages. It

could be redirected to URL (Universal Resource Locator) to which a hypertext
directs you to access. Hyperlinks simply make it easy for you to navigate
between web pages. Unlike hypertext, it involves media, audio, video, images,
and graphics. Also, the directed link could contain some unrelated
information.

6
Hypertexts and hyperlinks usually appear in a different color from the
rest of the text and often underlined. When you move your cursor over a text
link or over a graphic link, the cursor changes from an arrow to a hand.
Source:http://www.differencebetween.net/technology/difference-between-hypertext-and-hyperlink

Philippine Daily Inquirer indicates where you are with (A) URL, (B) logo
and branding, (C) navigation-bar change, (D) headings, and (E) contextual
cues.

To understand more on these essential features of a website, read the

following:

A. URL (Universal Resource Locator) - is a well-chosen, human-

readable web address that is important to sharing, credibility,
recognition, and recall.

7
B. Logo and branding - shows ownership of the content. Logos should
be linked to the homepage. Other branding such as trademarks, color
palettes, and signature fonts may be used to trigger recognition of an
organization’s established credibility.

C. Navigation-bar change – is a link or graphic element (tab, button, or

label) related to navigation becomes more visually prominent when the
user selects that topic.

D. Headings - help readers scan quickly for meaningful words. Several

levels of heading can be exposed at once to show more context and
path information.

E. Contextual cues – are dates, tags, icons, and other symbols and
signs may be used to place the information in the right context, both in
time and in the site’s information.
