    MERISTEMATIC TISSUES

    Substances secreted by tissues are called ergastic substances. They are absent in meristematic tissues. Any
    kind of plastids are also absent in meristematic tissues. But the precursor of plastids called proplastids are
    present. There are no food reserves present in them, but abundant food supply is present. The cells contain
    many mitochondria, and the respiratory rate is high.
