Lesson Plan in Oral Communication in Context

Grade 11 Einstein and Newton

I. Objectives At the end of the lesson, students should have:


1. defined regulation and control as functions of communication; and
2. showed an understanding of regulation and control as functions of
communication through a reflection writing.

III. Engagement Present a video clip of a Senate hearing and the students will answer
the following:
1. Who initiates an inquiry or investigation?
2. How does the Senate ensure that all witnesses invited to the hearing
will tell only the truth?
IV. Exploration Suppose you are a newly elected school leader addressing the
student body for the first time. What are some statements you can make to
control and regulate your constituents without earning their resentment or
dislike of your leadership style? Cite at least five statements and justify each
briefly.
V. Explanation Discuss regulation and control as functions of communication.
VI. Elaboration Think of any leader in your community or in your school. What does
he/she say or do to direct you toward the behavior he/she expects of you as
a follower.
Your answer must not be more than 10 sentences.
VII. Evaluation 1. Define regulation and control as functions of communication. (5
points)
2. What if the Senate or any other similar government entity has no set
of rules to govern its session? Cite at least three possible
ramifications of the absence of such rules. Describe each one briefly.
