Tables were derived based on BS 5950: Part 4: 1994 'Code of Practice for Design of composite slabs with
profiled sheeting'.
1) The table shows the maximum span in metres of ABSL structural decking sheet for the applied loads and slab
depths shown.
2) The span values are based on the use of a minimum 100mm bearing support.
3) Loading
- Span capacities include a construction load of 1.5 kN/m 2
- "Superimposed live load" referred to in the table shall be the sum of the loads supported by the composite
slab such as Live load, finishes, partitions and ceiling and services.
- Self weight of the slab has been taken into account in the calculation and should not be included in the
applied loading.
- Concrete weights are based on Normal Weight Concrete densities specified in BS 5950-4 as follows.
3
Density of the wet concrete = 2400 kg/m
3
Density of the dry concrete = 2350 kg/m
4) Deflection limits
- Limiting deflection of profiled sheet under serviceability loads (weight of sheet and wet concrete)
= L/180 , where L= Effective span
- Limiting deflection of composite slab under serviceability loads (imposed live load)
= L/350 , where L= Effective span
