survey, among American people, the environment and climate change are now rivaling the usual
top public policy concerns of the military and crime. With 64% of respondents agreeing that it
should be a high priority for the Trump administration and Congress, the environment is now the
second most popular public policy topic after the economy. Fourth place went to climate change,
ahead of jobs, a constantly dwindling policy priority. Large partisan divides between policy
preferences were also revealed by the poll. Democrats and Republicans generally agreed on
issues like drug abuse, social security, and crime, but they disagreed greatly on immigration,
climate change, and gun control. Climate change was viewed as a major issue by 78 percent of
Democrats compared to 21 percent of Republicans, while immigration was viewed as a top
priority by 73 percent of Republicans compared to 40 percent of Democrats. This will help the

happen in the future.
