D. Lesson Proper

Today, let’s talk about memorized speech.

In your own opinion, what is memorized

speech? Anyone? A memorized speech is….

Very good! A memorized speech is speaking

with advanced preparation, planned and
rehearsed speech and reciting a written message
word-for-word from memory.

When should you memorized? Anyone who

wants to share his/her opinion? For me, memorizing a speech can help you
achieve a smooth and effortless delivery…

Thank you! Keeping a speech in memory is

needed only on very rare occasions. A
memorized speech works best for the
introduction of a guest, acceptance of award or
recognition, toast, eulogy, tribute, and the like.

Now, let’s talk about disadvantages and

advantages of memorized speech.
Here are the following disadvantages of
memorized speech.

Kindly read the number, Rhea.

1. You might forget what you are supposed to
If you forget what you are supposed to say say.
which can create a very awkward moment
between you and your audience.

What is the number 2?

Memorized speech can result in a very unnatural 2. You might memorize the speech
delivery since you memorized the speech mechanically.
therefore if you memorized used facial
expressions, gestures to convey the message.

If you memorized the speech, consequently, 3. You might focus on content.

grouping for the right words might make you
look uptight and stiff.

And last one is?

This will give you no chance to pay attention 4. You might be too tied to remembering your
and respond to audience feedback since you are script.
too tied to remember your speech.

That is the four disadvantages of memorized

speech.

Let us proceed to advantages to memorized

speech

Everybody read the number 1

So, why is it considered as one of the

advantages of memorized speech? Yes, 1. You do not need notes anymore.
Crizelda?
It is considered as one of the advantages of
memorized speech because you do not have to
worry about when to glance at your audience.
Yes, since it is memorized, you do not need
notes anymore and at the same time you do not
have to worry about when you read and when to
glance at your audience. 2. You can plan gestures, facial expressions and
movement.
Kindly read the number 2.
Why gestures, facial expression and movement
is important in memorized speech? Yes, rhea?
It is important to use by a speaker to
communicate emotions and demonstrate
enthusiasm for the speech.

Precisely! Thank you, Rhea. next is?

3. You can concentrate on visual aids and props.

Here, if you have any props, it will help you to

focus more on your props if you have any.

Lastly, 4. You will feel more comfortable.

If you know that you have committed the speech

to memory, you will not be anxious about
running out of words or not knowing what to
say.

And now, here are the tips in memorizing a

speech. 1. Break it down!

Kindly read number 1. In memorizing a speech, we need to break it

down because we cannot memorize the whole
Why do we need to break it down? Yes, Claire? speech in just one sitting, ma’am.

Alright! so, to memorize a speech you need to

break it down because if your speech has four
paragraphs, you should focus on one paragraph
at a time. Once you have memorized the first
paragraph, focus on the next one.

What is the tip number 2? Yes, mica? 2. Build it up!

so, after breaking it down, you need to put them

together. Recite it by paragraph until you have
completed your speech. 3. Speak out.

What is the third tip? Everybody read.

Why do you need to speak out in memorizing a Ma’am

speech? Anyone?
Yes, Ranny. If we recite or speak out the speech the more
that we can remember.

Yes, when you recite your speech over and over

while memorizing it, your brain multitasks and
aids your memory retention.

The fourth one is, identify keys.

Why is it important identify keys in memorizing

a speech? Yes, Charisse. We have to identify keys when we are
memorizing for us to easily recall and remember
what is next.

Thank you, Charisse. Like Charisse said, it is

important to identify keys in every paragraph.
Even if you miss out some of the words in the
actual speech deliver, you can easily expound
on the key points.

What is the fifth tips? kindly read. 5. Have a break!

Why is it considered as one of the tips in

memorizing a speech? Yes, Glaiza?
We need to have a break from memorizing a
speech because it serves as a test on how well
we can recall what you think you have
memorized.

Exactly! Next one is, record and listen!

Do you think, this tip is effective? Anyone, who

want to share?

Yes, Ciahara?
For me, it is effective because just like the song
that I have listen over and over was get stuck in
my head therefore, I can say that it is effective.
Thank you. For Ciahara, it is effective to record
and listen. Which is really true because if you
are going to listen to this over and over again,
the speech will get stuck in your head.

Lastly!

7. Use notes cards!

Write one key point on one note card. Bring

these notes cards wherever you go and take
them out whenever you have extra time to
memorize, especially during idle times of the
day.

D. Generalization

Okay, class. Again, what is memorized speech? Ma’am.

Yes, maylyn? A memorized speech requires you to commit the

speech to memory so that you do not bring your
notes when delivering.

Very well said!

So, how about the four disadvantages of the

memorized speech?
Ma’am.
Yes, Joshua?
1. You might forget what you are supposed to
say.

2. You might memorize the speech

mechanically.

3. You might focus on content.

4. You might be too tied to remembering your

script.

to see life positively or helped you get up after a

whatever is most important to you. Deliver the
lines in class as if they were part of a speech.
Focus on appropriate facial expressions and
gestures when delivering the excerpt. You will
be given to do your task. In presenting, we will
repeat the procedure in your first activity.

presenters?

Yes, very good! Because the presenters

memorized what they are saying, they applied
appropriate gesture, movement and even facial
expressions and these are the advantages of
memorized speech.
