BACKGROUND
Science educators at Mvurwi High School have realized that some learners lack the scientific
skills of data collection, data presentation and data interpretation when soling certain
problems. So in this CALA learners are expected to research on data presentation and then
present given data in form of a pie chart.

CALA TIPS
A table must have horizontal rows and vertical columns, with specific headings.
The radius of a pie chart must be more than 5cm
When drawing sectors on a pie chart one should start with the largest central angle in the
clockwise direction, and end with that with the smallest central angle.

CALA DESCRIPTION
This CALA is divided into two parts A and B. you are required to respond to both parts.
PART A (10 marks)
1. What do you understand by the term Data [1]
2. List down 5 ways/forms of presenting data in science [5]
3. What term is used for the data collected when one is carrying out an experiment [1]
4. What is a pie- chart [1]
5. What represents the numerical magnitude of data on a pie chart [2]

PART B
The following information was gathered by a Form 2 learner who carried out a survey in one of
the Form 3 classes who are studying science subject, twenty learners are studying Biology,
twelve are studying Chemistry, twenty- eight are studying Combined Science and twelve are
studying Physics.
1. This information can be presented in the form of a Pie-chart.
(a) Calculate the percentage of learners studying each subject [4]
(b) Calculate the central angle that represent the number of learners studying each subject
[4]
2. Present the information in the form of a table shown below and all your working must
be clearly shown on the table.
