Activity 01: Explain Me!

Instructions: Writers use short passage which captures one’s mind and allows man to
ponder upon. Give your short understanding in 7-10 sentences on the passage below.

“Man by nature is a political animal.”

For centuries, mankind has found itself handling the masses through organizations and
governments in pursuit of control and development. And with these upholding the nature of
man, it is said to be that everyone needs to take part in a society. On the offset that you want
to live outside the civilization, you are sought to be someone greater than all of us – which you
aren’t. People perceive ourselves as entities of interdependence. And according to the quote,
no man is an island, which means people need other people. There is no power with only two
bare hands because only will we see progress when we accept that all of us are actually one
single unit.
With what we can take from this quote, the reason why there is conflict in politics is
because of different views that shape up our own personalities. And the only way to
compensate with this is to understand different scenarios that build up the nature that we have
today. Only will we be in harmony when we accept that we do not have barriers between us,
and that division is what causes destruction. And on our end, our responsibility is too look up,
stand straight, and face politics like it’s part of our society.

Activity 02: Let’s Watch

Instructions: Watch this downloaded video, The Problem with Fake News
(https://youtu.be/-xImbSj3NE) and answer the different processing questions.

1. What does the video point out?

With the given documentary, we are to understand that the media could be deceiving
and that it could cause misinformation and disinformation. And with all honesty, this is
dangerous depending on the context. Whether we’re talking about health or politics, the wrong
information given could cost us a lifetime filled with regret. Moreover, it has come to my
attention that the terminology “fake news” is very generalized and that it could mean a lot of
things. In order for us to specify what we are talking about; we should call out whether data is
being intentionally altered or not.
Now, as the speakers explain what the difference is between the two branches of ‘fake
news’, we see a clear line of whenever we could use each word in specific situations.
Misinformation by its own nature is organic and has no intention to spread false data, whereas
disinformation is organized by people who want to skew what is actually true in order to benefit
themselves. Let’s think of it like it’s a rumor from a friend; if per se the rumor was spread due
to full intent, then it is disinformation. On the other hand, if it was not intended to ridicule the
identity of a person, then it is misinformation.
As a resolution, people should be aware of whether the information posted online is
actually from a reliable source. This is our own responsibility to combat different political
agendas out there that could damage our society.
2. How will you connect the video to political ideology?
Politics in and of itself is widely based off of participatory aspects in our own community,
and to have people giving off false information is what bends the perspectives of those who
advocate for change. In the world of politics, people of power want to gain control of the
masses by holding classified information and showing the bright side of their own mistakes.
And this has its own downsides. Different political ideologies based off of crown opinions are
dependent on what they do get to know from the media – and to alter this information is to take
advantage of the people of what their opinion should me.
3. What particular political ideology is exemplified in the video? Explain your
answer?
One thing I always want to consider whenever I read news articles is that it should never
be based off of biased perspectives. A lot of writers out there are bending information just
because they want particular people more than others. And with the case of curing
disinformation, we have to consider a neutral based platform for people to read. In addition to
that, this closely ties into liberalism wherein people adjust their own political ideologies
according to their own beliefs of a great government. This ideology does not favor the left nor
the right rather both of them. And to be honest, every media broadcasting company should do
the same with their own information – to have it unbiased and neutral for everyone to read.

Activity 03: Do It Now

Instructions: As young social scientist, you are faced with many situations which
prepare you in your chosen career. Questions are to be answered to make you
think critically. In simple yet full of substance, answer the varied questions related
to the lesson.

1. What is the role accorded to the state by each political ideology?

Our government is fully aware of the different political ideologies and have looked
up to the fact that they could move these factors in order to properly govern the Filipino
people. But as seen in different occasions, the state does not toil with such concepts
rather they just uplift what they think is correct. So, as an exchange, these ideologies
serve as different principles for people look up to. As far as I can tell, the only conflict I
can see with regards to these concepts is the dictatorial tendencies of our own president.
Netizens have been putting out negative comments about the martial law and that it does
not do anything good to the people (Mindanao case). And as added information, we can
observe that the state is mostly liberal in nature – wherein they adapt to certain situations
and accept whatever is best for most.
Being part of a liberal country is what creates a more unifying train of thought for
the reason being that we are to be acceptant to the voices of other advocacies out there.
If you haven’t noticed, advocating in the Philippines have been widely witnessed – and I
believe that’s what’s important, to have an opinion rather than to not think at all.
2. How do ideologies bring about social change?
Societies build their selves up from the ground up and it has brought to my attention
that the only reason why they are progressing is because of different agreements about
different concepts in politics. I believe that what sets us apart as individuals is the fact
that we believe in various political ideologies. And with these different beliefs, we all ought
for the embodiment of the best government in accordance to our own opinions. This on
the other hand breads conflict in a lot of different ways.
Because of individualism, people have capabilities that are diverse enough to fully
optimize efficient societal change. And with these changes, we are to develop our country
with what we think is correct. Even though people want to kill criminals whilst others don’t,
we toil upon waters that truly solve problems in the near end.
There will always be progression when there is conflict; and the only way we can
find conflict is if we have people who are participative enough is society to contribute what
their own thoughts are. Diversity breads off societal change. And no matter what political
ideology you have, rest assured you’re helping us just for having an opinion.

3. What political ideology is most skeptical about democracy in the

Philippines?
Being part of the Philippines, which holds account to the votes of most people,
democracy has been greatly upheld to further provide the needs of the majority. But with
the different political ideologies that we have, one of which ridicules the concept of
individual rights and liberty. And as far as I’m concerned, we have been deprived of
freedom with a few leaders we had back then. But what ideology were they fighting for?
Fascists are those who preach authoritarianism that has bred dictators and cruel
rulers that further have destroyed individualism in a community. The reason why there
are those who want to eradicate the voice of other people is because they believe that
our people have no sense of intelligence and discipline. It is said that since there are
those who do not know how to vote, dictators should take place in order to find peace and
order in our own lands. And I don’t see this as a necessary truth.
Democracy has been recognized in our own country that it has shown its
capabilities of progression and societal change. Because of the right to free speech, we
have improved our people to use their own capabilities at their own disposal. And with
everyone’s with equality in accordance to the law, there would never be a need to
discipline by force.
Not everything should be done by omitting violence and a strict dictator. We are all
part of the same family but we should not only listen to one leader, rather by the voice of
all – because it matters.
