Solution: Comparing / Before-After

13 000 + 8 000 = 21 000

Before After

Number of Chinese books

Number of Chinese books  x 21 000
 x 13 000 = 10080
= 4550
Number of English books
Number of English books 21 000– 10080
13 000– 4550 = 10920
= 8450

80 : 100

= 4 : : 5

_______________________________________________

4 : 16 : 5

After which Henry then gave 50% of his money to Amelia. In the end, Amelia
had $450 more than Henry. How much money did Amelia save at first?

Solution: Comparing / Draw a Model

At first

Amelia $320

Henry

After Amelia gave of her money to Henry

of 4 units = 1 unit

of $320 = $80
320 – 80 = 240

Amelia $240

Henry $80

From Amelia

After Henry gave 50% of his money to Amelia

Amelia $280

Henry $40

$450

40 + 450 = 490
490 – 280 = 210
3 units  210
1 unit  210 ÷ 3
=70
70 x 4 + 320 = 600

Ans: 600
