INTRODUCTION

▸WHAT IS CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT?

It simply means to execute the plan of construction by means of


various management techniques.

▸ Construction industry is the largest industry in the world

▸ It consumes a wide employment circle of labor

▸ It exhibits costs overruns, time extension, and conflicts


among parties.

▸ Intricate and time consuming undertakings

▸ During the construction process itself , work will involve


many skills, materials and hundreds of operations.

▸ the construction industry is more challenging than other


industries due to: its unique nature; many conflicting
parties are involved; projects are constrained by time,
money and quality; and high risk.

A CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
A project is an assignment/task/job that has to be
undertaken and completed within a set time, budget,
resources and performance specifications designed to
meet the needs of stakeholder and beneficiaries

A project is defined, whether it is in construction or not, by


the following characteristics:

- Defined goal or objective.

- Specific tasks to be performed.

- A defined beginning and end.

- Resources being consumed.
