Write paragraphs showing cause and effect (EN5WC-IIb-2.2.5)

CAUSE and EFFECT

Cause and effect is a relationship between events or things, where one is the
result of the other. It is one way to explain things that happen around us. Many things
happen because something caused or influenced them to happen.

In writing a cause-and-effect paragraph, we should remember the following:

a. Determine the cause and the effect. Ask “why did this happen? and “what
happened next?”
b. organize the main idea and the supporting details
c. use transition or signal words to show cause and effect relationship

Example:

Taal Volcano in the Philippines has been erupting since midday of

January 12. It has experienced continuous eruption of its main crater from
magmatic and hydro volcanic activity, including lava fountains 500 meters
tall. As a result, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology
(PHIVOLCS) urged the evacuation of all people within 14-kilometer radius of
Taal. Due to continued risk of an explosive eruption, falling ash, and a
potential volcanic tsunami, people were brought to safety to escape the harmful
effects of the volcanic eruption. More than 40,000 residents have evacuated
because of the ash fall and falling debris coming from the volcano’s crater.

climate, or long-term weather patterns that varies from place to
place. Glaciers are melting in other countries, sea levels are rising, cloud
forests are dying, and wildlife is scrambling to keep pace. It has become
clear that humans have contributed to the past century's warming
by releasing heat-trapping gases as we power our modern lives. Levels of
greenhouse gases are higher now than at any time in the last 800,000
years.
