 Teenage pregnancy becomes an issue around the world, a lot of countries face this problem,
and one of them is the Philippines. The number of cases of early pregnancy in the Philippines
increased, and it keeps on increasing as the time goes by. We should be aware that this should not be
normalize. This is alarming because the youth of today should be studying and having fun not
carrying a child, taking care of their child, and have a lot of responsibilities being a mother.

There are some factors that results to teenage pregnancy that society and parents must be
aware to minimize the case of teenage pregnancy. First is the negligence of parents to look after their
children or child neglect, a lot of child experience this, to be neglect by their parents. This results to
the child to seek attention to others that makes them to do something bad because no one is looking
after them. Second is sex education, we all know that today’s generation are very open to premarital
sex, there even was a case that they have sexual intercourse with a stranger or with a man/woman you
just met. However, the lack of information and knowledge of sex education leads them to make a
mistake and have a fruit of their love making. Lastly is the sexual assault, rape is also one of the
problems we face in our country. Sadly, many women and young girls was a victim of rape, and that
is one of the causes of teenage pregnancy. It is sad that after they were molested, they were left with
an evidence of their molestation. The parent reaction might be anger and disappointment to the teen
mom. The parents will worry about the future of their child, they will also be disappointment of
themselves because they failed to protect their child. Some may accept their child’s situation, but
some parents disown their child because of denial and disappointment. The parents will also think
about their financial situation. It is because most teen parents only depend of their parents. Especially
when the father does not have stable job or worse the father did not accept the responsibility as the
father. The teen mom will face the problem by herself with her parents. Early pregnancy affects both
teen mom and child’s education, some who have cases like this stop studying to focus on their marital
stage, and some are afraid that many people will judge them. It can affect their health and can lead to
various complications. Early pregnancy affects both mental and physical health. It has a high risk of
health to the teen mom and to the child, it may have complications to their young bodies. Some
teenagers choose to have an abortion because they are scared to face the consequence of what they
did, and that choice is very unsafe. It is not just the baby who will die, there was also a chance that the
teen mom will also die because her body may not be able to endure it. However, if the teen mom takes
the full responsibility her health is also at high risk when she gave birth. The baby may be born
premature or have disability. Most of young mothers suffer from postpartum depression, some of
them do not take the full responsibility of the being a parent. It can also lead to difficulty of sleeping
and anxiety to the teen mom. There even was a case that affect their mental health that leads them to
be mentally ill.

In conclusion, being pregnant in an early age is a big problem in our country. Its causes
negligence of parents, lack of sex education and child rape. It affects family relationship especially to
the parents, also in financial problem because teen parents are still young and does not have stable job
that can provide for their family. It also affects the teen parent’s education because of the big
responsibility that they need to face, they does not have time to study. Lastly it has a severe effect to
the teen mom and child’s health because it may have complications while giving birth.
