WEEK 8
1. Because the Philippines belongs to the northwest Pacific Ocean or basin, which is home to the
most intense and most frequent occurrence of tropical cyclones. The Philippines is prone to tropical
cyclones due to its geographical location which generally produces heavy rains and flooding of
large areas and also strong winds which result in heavy casualties to human life and destruction to
crops and properties. Thus, it is of utmost importance to have sufficient knowledge of such
maritime phenomena for beneficial purposes.
2. Thunderstorms can occur year-round and at all hours. However, they are most likely to occur in the
spring and summer months, especially from May through August. The formation of thunderstorms
requires warm, moist air, such as the tropical air masses that come from the Gulf of Mexico and
move across the United States. Thunderstorms usually develop at the time of day when the
surface air is the warmest, which is generally around 2 to 4 pm.
3. Large cities like Metro Manila can reduce the likelihood of urban flooding by implementing
strategies to reduce and slow water runoff across the city, by increasing water infiltration (drainage
into the surface) and retention (storage on or under the surface) across the watershed, mimicking
the natural environment. This allows cities to better manage water on the surface, relieves
pressure on drains and sewers and helps prevent water from collecting in flood-prone areas.

Many parts of Manila Bay have slowly been sinking, causing the populations to be prone to coastal
floods. According to the existing studies, coastal floods in Manila Bay areas are caused by climate-
induced sea-level rise and land subsidence due to the excessive groundwater extraction and rapid
urban development.
4. A storm surge is a rise in sea level that occurs during tropical cyclones, and intense storms also
known as typhoons or hurricanes. Storm surge does not come from rainfall or flooding but occurs
when powerful winds from a hurricane push ocean water higher than usual over the shore. Storm
surges are extremely dangerous because they are capable of flooding large coastal areas, causing
severe devastation. It is important for those living in areas prone to surge to learn about how it
happens, and what to do when it does.
5. When a flood warning is issued in our area, I will evacuate together with my family. We will head
for higher ground and stay there until we are told that the area is safe.

 If we have time prior to evacuation, we will secure our home. Bring in outdoor furniture. Move
essential items to the highest part of the upper floor of our home.
 We will turn off utilities at the main switches or valves if instructed to do so and disconnect
electrical appliances. (Do not touch electrical equipment if you are wet or standing in water.)
 Do not walk through moving water. Six inches of moving water can sweep us off our feet. If we
have to walk in water, we will walk where the water is not moving. We will use a stick to check
the firmness of the ground in front of us.
 If we come upon a flowing stream where water is above our ankles, we will stop, turn around
and go another way. People underestimate the force and power of water.
 We will also keep the children out of the water.

WEEK 9

1.
Bolide impacts have affected the Earth’s carbon cycle in a multitude of ways. The widely held view that
there are direct effects the carbon cycle through environmental devastation and mass extinction, such as
has been popularized with the K–Pg boundary event, is probably the exception rather than the rule. Most
of the consequences of large impacts have been indirect. On the Hadean Earth, intense bombardment
may have contributed to the destabilization of the original crust, thereby possibly promoting plate motion
that has become an integral part of carbon cycling through plate destruction. Subaqueous early impact
basins may also have been self-contained production sites of organic molecules that could have been
potential cradles for life.
2.

3.

4.

Coastal erosion becomes a hazard when society does not adapt to its effects on people, the built
environment and infrastructure. Coastal erosion may be caused by large waves, storm surges, rip cell
embayments, high winds, rain, runoff, flooding, or increased water levels and ocean conditions caused by
periodic El Niños.

5. We can avoid impact (bolide) by having a slow gravity tractor (spacecraft gravity that pulls the
asteroid), the mid-range kinetic impactor (slam one or more spacecraft into the asteroid), the
developing techniques such as laser ablation (vaporizing rock to create jets that push the asteroid),
and the last resort shorter warning nuclear options (nuclear disruption, or stand-off nuclear
ablation: rapid vaporizing of rock on one part of the asteroid).

Kaingin is noted to be one of the principal causes of deforestation. Slash and burn consist of cutting and
burning to convert forest lands to agricultural lands or pasture for livestock, or a variety of other purposes.
It is sometimes part of shifting cultivation agriculture, and of transhumance livestock herding. employing a
technique of clearing land by slashing and burning underbrush and trees and plowing the ashes under for
fertilizer well-known kaingin system which has been enormously destructive of valuable timber.

STATS
Answer:
A. 4
B. 56
C. 1140
D. 19600
Step-by-step explanation:
A sample size of 3 will be selected from different sizes of population. Since the 3 samples will be chosen
together, this means that order is not important. This problem involves combination.
Use the formula for combinations
C (n, r) =        n !
              r! × (n - r!)
Substitute the given in each letter, where in this question, given population N is for n in the formula, and
the given sample size n is for r in the formula.
A. N = 4, n = 3
Combination of 4 objects taken 3 at a time
C (4, 3) = 4
B. N = 8, n = 3
Combination of 8 objects taken 3 at a time
C (8, 3) = 56
C. N = 20, n = 3
Combination of 20 objects taken 3 at a time
C (20, 3) = 1140
D. N = 50, n = 3
Combination of 50 objects taken 3 at a time
C (50, 3) = 19600

WRITING EXERCISE
“Innovating Rose Boutique through Websites”
I. OVERVIEW

Rose Boutique is the leading women's retro apparel store in the Bay Area. However, without a website,
the store cannot sell beyond this area. As discussed in our recent phone conversation, the team at
Everbright Technology Solutions would love to create a website for you that can help you expand your
reach to the rest of California and even an international market.

This website would feature an easily updatable shopping cart with international currency and other
features to provide convenience to local shoppers and engage a wider audience of fashionable women.
We anticipate this website would help you increase your sales by 500% in the next two years.

II. BACKGROUND

Everbright Technology Solutions is a website design firm based in Silicon Valley. We have a long history
of working with retailers, especially retailers in the fashion space. We are passionate about helping these
clients transition into the digital world and build on their success with accessible and functional websites.
We believe a website should complement your existing business practices rather than replacing them. We
think this philosophy makes us an excellent fit for your retro-influenced store.

III. PROBLEM/NEEDS

Remote workers across the website should be able to communicate with one another seamlessly and
effortlessly, without getting bogged down in unnecessary or irrelevant messages.

Right now, messages tend to get lost or cluttered through multiple email strings. This results not only in
lost productivity, but also multiple problems in miscommunication.

I propose that all employees sign up for Slack and use it for the majority of in-company communication.
Conversations can be easily searched and organized by website. Only more formal communication, like
official announcements, should be sent over email.

I. GOALS & OBJECTIVES

We plan to create a simple yet stylish website that fits the existing Rose Boutique brand. It will be user-
friendly for your existing and growing customer base and easily updatable through a content management
system to ensure it always reflects current stock and promotions. It will help your business become more
competitive as people increasingly look for online shopping solutions.

The website will have the following components:

 An About Us page detailing the store's history and philosophy

 An online store that lets shoppers search for and purchase your products from the comfort of their
homes. Automatic currency conversion and shipping calculators make shopping anywhere in the
world easy. The online store will accept payments from major credit cards and digital wallets.
 A blog that you can update at any time with posts about new clothing arrivals and general stories to
engage your readers, such as seasonal styling tips and information about retro style icons.
 A contact page with store address, telephone and a contact form that browsers can complete to
email you.

VI. BUDGET

We will charge $5000 to build this website. This cost includes the following:

 Hosting space on our servers

 Two years' registration of the domain https://www.missthingclothing.com ($20 renewal fee applies
every subsequent two years)
 Total website design and creation
 Integration of mobile wallet payments
 Troubleshooting assistance three months after delivery

 A site map for the website
 A page of testimonials from other retailers that had used its services.

1. Writing a project proposal is important because it helps organizations and external project
stakeholders agree on an initial project planning framework. It is a project management document
that's used to define the objectives and requirements of a project. It is an essential marketing
document that helps cultivate an initial professional relationship between an organization and a
donor over a project to be implemented. The proposal outlines the plan of the implementing
organization for the project, giving extensive information about the intention, for implementing it,
the ways to manage it and the results to be delivered from it. A project proposal is a very important
document.

2. I think the solution section of the project proposal can be the most persuasive to the reader
because it covers the project management steps, techniques, and skills needed to get things done
more efficiently, as well as how to manage problems. The solution section of the proposal should
be clearly addressed in order to let the reader know why the proposal was written and why they
should be interested in it. A properly solution will add clarity to the proposal. If you provide a
problem, be sure to describe what actions you plan on taking to solve the problem. The reader
wants to make sure that your solution will work effectively and if it is worth investing in. Giving
methods, providing a schedule, showing resources, and describing qualifications should persuade
the reader that you are capable of planning, managing, and completing the proposed solution.

tumpak at sigurado.

masasama niyang gawi at tinulungan niya itong maging masinop. Ang maikling kwentong ito ay
napakagandang basahin at tiyak na may pagpupulutan ka nang aral dito. Ito ay mabuti at maganda kaya

LESSON 22
LESSON 23
LESSON 24
1. To make others see Christ in me, I will be a good example by respecting and loving everyone
unconditionally, by being a person that is willing to put others before myself, to seek wisdom, and to care
about how I interact with all the people I come across in life. And I can also make others see Christ in me
by being humble, which means putting God and His will first. To treat and to love others as you would like
them to treat you, and be a servant.

2. To make ourselves worthy and deserving of receiving the body and blood of Christ, we must have faith
in Him. To receive without belief is the ultimate sacrilege and prevents us from recognizing and receiving
the grace Christ wants to give us. If we do make the choice to receive the Eucharist, we should prepare
through prayer and removing ourselves from distractions. Making a conscious effort to receive Jesus
worthily will make an enormous difference in our spiritual lives and will bring us into a deeper communion
with Him.

3. In the celebration of the Eucharist, bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ through
the power of the Holy Spirit and the instrumentality of the priest. The whole Christ is truly present – body,
blood, soul, and divinity – under the appearances of bread and wine, the glorified Christ who rose from the
dead. This is what the Church means when she speaks of the “Real Presence” of Christ in the Eucharist.

Pg 174
1. The highest occupied principal energy level is the fifth, so this element is in Period 5. By adding 10
+ 2 + 3 from the given configuration, we can see that the element is in Group 15. Since the p
sublevel is partially filled, it is in the p-block.
2.

3. The number of valence electrons of an element can be determined by the periodic table group
(vertical column) in which the element is categorized. With the exception of groups 3–12
(the transition metals), the units digit of the group number identifies how many valence electrons
are associated with a neutral atom of an element listed under that particular column.
4. When you look at the Periodic Table of the Elements, the energy levels of the atoms correspond
to the rows of the table. The two elements in the top row, hydrogen and helium, are filling their
first energy level with their final electrons. The eight elements of the second row are filling their
second energy level. It is the outermost electrons that determine the chemical properties of the
element.

5. The labels s, p, d and f blocks of the Periodic Table refer to the subshell that is being filled with
electrons.

⚛ Group 1 elements occur at the beginning of a new row (Period) of the Periodic Table.
The highest energy level (valence shell) contains only 1 electron in an s subshell.

⚛ Group 2 elements occur directly to the right of Group 1 elements.

The highest energy level (valence shell) contains 2 electrons, both electrons occupy an s subshell.
The s subshell for this energy level (shell) is now full.
⚛ The highest energy level (valence shell) of a Group 13 element already has 2 electrons in an s
subshell, so the next electron occupies a p subshell to make 3 valence electrons in total (2 s
electrons + 1 p electron).
As you proceed from left to right across the Period from Group 13 to Group 18 elements, electrons
are being added to the p subshell.
Group 18 elements have 2 s electrons and 6 p electrons in their highest energy level (shell) which
completes the s and p subshell.

⚛ Transition metals are filling their d subshell with electrons, starting with Group 3 elements which
have 1 electron in a d subshell.
Group 12 elements have 10 electrons in a d subshell, which corresponds to a completed d
subshell.

⚛ Lanthanoids and actinoids are filling their f subshells with electrons.

6. The periodic table is a systematic display of elements in which elements are placed according to
their atomic numbers in different groups and periods.

The element in which the valence electrons enter in the s-subshell, at last, belongs to the s-block.
All the elements in s-block are metals except hydrogen.

Hence, hydrogen is the only element that is not a metal.

7.

8. The number of the valence electrons present in an element is reflected by its position in the
periodic table. In a given period number of electrons in a valence shell increases from left to right.
Whereas in a group, the number of valence electrons remains the same from top to bottom.

MODULE 9 (PAGE 149)

angular momentum quantum number (l), the magnetic quantum number (m l), and the electron spin
