Priming Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

(2 minutes) Good morning, everyone! How are

you today?
We are doing good, Ma’am.
Oh, I am happy to hear that. Before
we officially start, I would like to
remind you to keep your microphone
muted, only unmute yourself when
you are called. Be visible also as we
go through our lesson.

But first of all, let us ask the presence

of the Lord to be with us. Let us pray.

▪ Prayer ▪ Prayer

Once again, a very pleasant morning

to everyone. Please Allow me to
check your attendance.
▪ Checking of Attendance

Wow, I am glad to see that you are all

asked. We have here 12 tiles and you
will choose a tile, behind those tiles are
questions you will answer.

Do you understand class? Yes, ma’am.

Do you have any clarifications? None, ma’am.

• Construct who, what, when,
where, why, and how questions
• Cite the importance of
identifying WH-Questions in a
story

As we dig deeper on the literary piece,

I want you to ponder on this question:

Motive Question: “What is the

significance or importance of
identifying WH-Questions in
understanding a story”?
You will answer this, once we are done
discussing about the story.

Activity 1 Let’s have another activity which is

Unlocking Vocabulary. This is a group

Exaltation
Analysis The words you just unlocked are in the
story “The Happiest Boy in the
(15 minutes) World”, which you will watch later on.
But before that take a look at these
WH-questions, their usage and
examples.
Firstly, Wh-questions are certain types
of questions we ask to get information
about different things and are used
frequently every day at home and in
the classroom

Moving on, here are the rules in

formulating WH-questions.

I. How to form WH-questions?

1. with an auxiliary
Wh-word + auxiliary + subject + main
verb …?

Auxiliary verbs are helping verbs (not

main verbs).
Common auxiliary verbs include be,
do, have. Others are will, shall, would,
can, could, must, should, may, might,
etc.
- What do you do for a living?
- Why should we read books?
- When is she coming?

2. without any auxiliary

(when WH-words replace subjects
already)
Wh-word + main verb …?

- What happened to Peter?

- Who won the game?
- Who gave you this present?

Do you have any question regarding

the rules? If none, here are the question
words with their usage and examples:

Question words:
• What - Used to ask about
things
Examples: - What are you doing?
- What do you think about the movie?

Any other example class? You can

raise your hand. Student 1 states her
example.
Good job… (what…)

• When- Used to ask about time

Examples: - When will the meeting
start?
- When are you leaving?

Anyone from you would like to try Student 2 states her

giving another example? example.
That is correct. (when…)

• Where- used to ask about

places
Examples- Where’s my bag?
- Where do you live?

I believe, in your mind, you already

formulated your question. Who wants
to try?

Okay, someone raised their hand

Student 3 raised hand
virtually. Yes?
virtually (where…)
Very good.

• Who- Used to ask about people

Or an action a person did.
Examples: Who do you love the most
in your family?
- Who told you that story?
- who did you call?

Okay, someone raised their hand

virtually again. Yes? Student 4 raised hand
virtually (who…)
Very good

• Why- Used to ask about

reasons/ causes
Examples: Why did it happen? I didn’t
understand.
- Why is he crying?

Any other example class? Student 5 raised hand

virtually (why…)
Good job…

• How- Used to ask about

manner/ process
Examples: How can you explain this
problem? Please tell us.
- How can you get here?

Anyone from you would like to try

giving another example? Student 6 states her
example.
(how…)
That is correct.

Very good, everyone I think you all

understood the lesson. And to
incorporate what have you learned,
watch this video of the story “The
Happiest Boy in the World”

(Teacher plays the video)

(Students watch the video)

Activity 2 In connection, we will use that story in

our lesson. I hope that you can
(5 minutes) understand the story so that you can
answer these following questions: Student answers:
1. In the story “The Happiest Boy
in the World,” who is the letter The letter sender is Julio,
writer? the father of Jose.
2. What was the reason why the
father wrote the letter to his
Compadre?
He wanted his son to study
and was hoping that his
compadre can take him.
3. Where does the family live?
The family in the story
lives in Barok.
4. When will Jose go to school
according to his Father? Julio is expected to go to
school in June.
5. Why was Jose happy? Jose was happy because he
found out what was in the
letter and though it was
hard to understand he was
able to get the message that
his father wants him to
start school
6. How did Jose find out what is
in the letter? It is because of his
curiosity, he stopped his
carabao under a shady tree
by the roadside and
Very good everyone. You really secretly read the letter.
watched the video and answered
all the questions. And because of
that you can elicit information and
get the details that are being asked.
Remember that through WH-
Questions we can understand the
story better and quickly.

Abstraction You already understood the Story

“The Happiest Boy in the World and
(3 minutes)
so with WH-Questions. it’s time for
you to answer our motive question,

Motive Question;
“What is the significance or
importance of identifying WH-
Questions”?

Anyone from the class?

Ma’am, the significance of
identifying WH-Questions
is we are able to get
information about different
things.
Indeed. WH-Questions serve as a tool
to help you to identify the information
from each part of a story. Through
WH-Questions you can understand
better and quickly the story.

Application Now, we are going to simulate your

lesson learned into real-life situation. I
