光透过墨镜射出来。我看着⼩狗，摇了摇头，没办法，安了吧。说完摸了

4. 我看着⼤姐怀中的⼩狗，依然抽搐，依然睁着⽆辜的⼤眼睛，直勾勾的不
知道看哪⾥。⼤姐抚摸着它说，宝⻉⼉真乖，宝⻉⼉真乖，⼀会⼉就好
了，⼀会⼉就不痛了……睡着了⼀切就好了…… 过了好⼀会⼉，⼩狗抽搐
才慢下来。我不⾏了，别过脸，泪流满⾯。⼤姐⼜说，其实它不会痛，因
为神经都坏死了。⼜过了⼀会⼉，⼩狗的动作变得越来越慢，几近停⽌。
但它的双眼还睁着，⼜⼤⼜圆。⼤姐说，当年她养了⼗几年的狗狗安乐死
的时候，眼睛也没闭上。我还没反应过来，戴口罩的年轻护⼠就迫不及待
地过来抱⾛它，好像急着完成下班前的最后⼀单买卖⼀样，说是把⼫体放
在房间⾥，周末会有⼈来收去⽕化。我⼀点都不相信他，⼀点都不。但没

才慢下來。我不⾏了，別過臉，淚流滿⾯。⼤姐⼜說，其實它不會痛，因
為神經都壞死了。⼜過了⼀會兒，⼩狗的動作變得越來越慢，幾近停⽌。
但它的雙眼還睜著，⼜⼤⼜圓。⼤姐說，當年她養了⼗幾年的狗狗安樂死
的時候，眼睛也沒閉上。我還沒反應過來，戴口罩的年輕護⼠就迫不及待

2. It was nearly evening when we entered the dimly lit hospital. The doctor listened
absentmindedly as we told the whole story and he told us their pricing without
emotion - euthanasia would cost 108 RMB, and cremation was 120 RBM or a bit more
if we wanted the ashes. I said, "Let's look into the puppy's situation and then talk
about this." They took the puppy's temperature and said, "It's nearly forty degrees."
The older lady said coldly, "Maybe this is the after effects of a disease which can't be
treated." We asked the doctor for his opinion and he said that maybe that was the
case and that we could treat it, but the chances of curing it were low. The woman
said, "Then perhaps we should put it to sleep; it's in such pain living this way." Then
she asked for our opinion. My friend grew agitated at this, "was there really no way
to save it?" The woman answered, "Do you want to keep it? Can you take care of it?"
Then she asked me, "Can you take care of it?" At the same time, a look shot through
her glasses telling us she thought us too idealistic. I looked at the dog and shook my
head. There wasn't anything that could be done. "Put it to sleep," I replied. And with
that said, I petted the little puppy, filled with remorse.

3. After we signed the papers, the doctor began the injection. My friend said she

4. I looked at the puppy nestled in the woman's arms. Although it was trembling, its
