BHS Mission Statement:

The mission of Branford High School is to prepare students to be independent and collaborative
learners who are responsible, informed, and contributing members of society. In partnership with
the community, we strive to provide a learning environment that supports all students in
embracing diversity, acting with integrity, and achieving their personal and academic potential.

Course Description:
Students will use a digital audio workstation to create projects that will explore musical and
technical concepts. Topics may include but are not limited to composing and arranging music,
remixing, podcasting, and film scoring. Students will be required to work independently and have
time management skills with each project. No prior musical experience or skills required.

Food & Drink – Water is the only beverage allowed. No food, gum, or other drinks are permitted.

Equipment
Headphones – You must bring headphones to use in class. A cheap pair of earbuds is fine.
Bluetooth may not work. You must take off your headphones during instructions.

Computers – Students must follow the district’s acceptable use technology policy and
may only use computers for work related to the class.

Midi Keyboards – Students will learn how to care for this equipment and are responsible
for proper setup and clean up each class.

Device/Cell Phone Expectations

The Branford High School device and cell phone expectations require that students deposit their
phones and smart watches in a teacher-designated storage spot upon entering the classroom.
Phones must remain in storage for the duration of the class period. Parents should call the main
office at 203-488-7291 if they need to reach their child during class. Students who fail to follow
this procedure will be subject to consequences according to school policy.

Final Exam – Per department policy, seniors who have earned an A average do not need to be
present during the final exam time slot. All other students (including students in grade 12 who
have an A- or lower and all students in grades 9-11) must attend the final exam. All students,
including seniors, must complete a final project. Class time will be provided, but students may
need to complete additional work outside of class.
