BACKGROUND INFORMATION OF THE BUSINESS

Introduction

Physical activity and exercise are important for everyone. Children,

adolescents, and adults of all ages need regular physical activity. Physical
activity promotes good health, and should stay active throughout all stages of life
regardless of what the body type is. Understanding the benefits of physical
fitness and knowing how active should be can help individuals maintain good
health and improve overall quality of life. There are numerous health advantages
to physical fitness. Regular exercise and physical activity promote strong
muscles and bones. It improves respiratory, cardiovascular health, and overall
health. Staying active can also help maintain a healthy weight, reducing risk for
diabetes and heart disease.

Adding weights to an exercise is a sure way to help tone muscles,

strengthen the body and burn more calories. However, using dumbbells was too
much of a hassle and must be picked up and down and carefully held to avoid
injury during workout. That is why the proponents decided to develop an
equipment that is more convenient and can be worn on the wrist and ankle
without worrying about any possible accident and injuries.

StrapLBS is a manufacturing business that aims to produce a fashionable,

but functional portable weights that can help individuals to use it anytime,
anywhere. The business will offer a weighted resistance bands ensuring
customers a healthier and happier lifestyle. StrapLBS adds a constant but
comfortable resistance to a workout. Wildly versatile, they can be worn on wrists
or ankles for athletic, recreational and domestic activities such as jogging,
running, yoga, cardiovascular training or even just doing simple house chores.

The partners decided to innovate and create this product to help

individuals who wanted to be physically fit and mentally healthy without doing any
intense workout. StrapLBS will be beneficial to individuals who do not have time
to go to the gym to help them maximize their time by being able to work or do
their day-to-day activities and be physically fit at the same time.

More people prefer online shopping over conventional shopping these

days, that is why the partners have agreed to sell the product on E-commerce
platforms such as Lazada, Shopee and TikTok to attract and encourage potential
customers who are aiming to improve overall lifestyle.

Name of the Proposed Business

The name of the proposed business is StrapLBS. The name StrapLBS

came from two specific words which are “Strap” and “Pounds”. The product is
composed of steel weights wrapped around a “Strap” and can be used by
strapping it in the wrist. The main purpose of the product is to encourage
individuals to lose “pounds”. The written abbreviation of the word “pounds'' is
''LBS”. Hence, the name “StrapLBS” was formed.

Location of the Proposed Business

The proposed business will be located at P. Gomez Street, Brgy. 11,

Laoag City, Ilocos Norte which will serve as the office, warehouse, and

Competitive Advantage
DATA CENTER COLLEGE OF THE PHILIPPINES OF LAOAG CITY, INC. 10
BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

StrapLBS’s competitors are sellers offering gym equipments and other

portable weights such as weights containing sand, and vibrating weights. The
competitive advantage of StrapLBS is its unique style which consists of steel
wrapped with silicon that is more aesthetic and sturdier. Unlike weights
containing sand or other bulky weights, StrapLBS contains steel. This means that
StrapLBS have a consistent weight throughout, versus weights filled with sand,
where the contents tend to move around.

Distribution Strategy

StrapLBS will be sold through different Ecommerce platforms such as

Lazada, Shopee and TikTok in which the product will be distributed to its
consumers by using logistic and courier services such as J&T Express, Ninja
Van, Shopee Xpress, JRS Express and Entrego.

and persuade the customers to buy their products. The proposed business will
use advertisement for its promotional strategy.

Online advertising, specifically social media will be one of the tools to be

used in advertising the business before its operation. The business will open its
own page on different social media platforms such as Facebook, TikTok and
Instagram where the products and other business information will be posted. The
partners will also use their own social media accounts to boost the business
popularity.

The advertising cost of the business is shown in table 4.

SWOT Analysis

One of the strengths of StrapLBS is that the staff are highly committed
which is good when starting a business. Another strength is of the business is
that having the partners as the employees creates a lightweight and flat hierarchy
resulting in quicker decision making. On the other hand, the proponents have
insufficient experience in handling the day-to-day issues of the business since
they are fresh graduates and as a new business, the StrapLBS may start with a
low profile and the unavailability of modern accounting and inventory tools is also
seen as one of the weaknesses of the business. Although the opportunities of the
DATA CENTER COLLEGE OF THE PHILIPPINES OF LAOAG CITY, INC. 12
BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

business include the expansion of the business, online platforms are now

deemed as the new pathway of consumers in purchasing their product as a new
leap in technology advancements, as well as physical fitness trends tend to be
advocated more nowadays by different health agencies after the country’s entry
to “new normal”. The threats are consumers who are tight with their budget,
expected increase in the costs of inputs and the current slowdown of the
country’s economy since the pandemic. Another threat as foreseen by the
partners are the entry of competitors and the imitation of the product.

The SWOT Analysis of StrapLBS is shown in figure 3.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC ASPECT

The socio-economic aspect, which includes the amount of taxes to be paid

and the advantages that the public will receive from this business, is a
straightforward approach for StrapLBS to serve the community. StrapLBS is
looking forward to maximizing commercial profit and making numerous
contributions to the development of the economy.

The government may aid businesses that are having financial difficulties
by supporting them and encouraging them to consider the interests of society by
holding them accountable for the effects of their operations on customers,
employees, the government, and the environment. The socio-economic duties of
StrapLBS in society will be identified with the help of this chapter.

improve society as a whole. This is advantageous to the government since the
business pays the appropriate taxes, and the government uses the money to
uphold law and order, achieve economic stability, and more.

through proper waste segregation. The business will use garbage bags, and
waste will be separated into biodegradable and non-biodegradable, enabling the
business to help the environment stay clean. Thus, the excess of the elastic bond
