ACTIVITY TITLE: Case Analysis
CASE STORY TITLE: A Better Alternative for the Youth of Barangay Maligalig

Conflict Identification

Officials and other residents of Barangay Maligalig were worried for their youth as Kagawad Sally,
who is responsible for the barangay’s youth development, said that months ago, vendors in their
nearby market reported that there is a group of strangers who hang around in the market,
sniffling rugby or solvents, smoke, and drink alcohol in the area.

They were more alarmed when they found out that a group of male teenagers from their
community got into a fight with the group of teenagers as well that hang around in the market.
Sometimes, they persuade other teenagers to do what they are doing and if they decline, they
get bruises. There are also instances that some women youths are being courted by the other
members of the group.

Due to those events, the group members’ attitudes and habits were being adapted or imitated by
the youth from Barangay Maligalig that worried the other residents of the community.

Plan of Action

To address this matter, barangay officials and community residents’ suggestion on implementing
activities that the youth will focus on is significant. In this manner, the community may impose
several seminars or “kumustahan sessions” that are youthful in approach and contain youthful
programs. These seminars or sessions aim to help the youth in diverting their attention from
something that is delinquent to something useful and fruitful. Further, these activities may
provide them information that is great for their health and well-being.

To carry this out, people in the area must work together with the assistance of barangay officials
and the participation of the youth. They may invite other speakers or guests that will persuade
the youth in joining the activity/ies.

With the officials and residents’ effort on implementing these activities, which may be taken
every three months or quarterly (depending on the availability of the budget and/or resources),
they may be able to combat the spreading negative actions and attitudes by the group of
teenagers, and they might be able to produce youth that are healthy in various aspects and be
advocates of youth empowerment.

Reflection

It is often said that the youth are our future, thus, we must help them nurture and nourish as
they grow up. As early as now, as early as them being young, society must guide them in their
journey while letting them enjoy their lives. Society or adults must approach them in a holistic
manner and not rush them in the pacing of their lives as they, the youth, must indulge in the
experiences that they may or will have to further grasp the learnings and knowledge that they
may get along the way.

Lastly, being young is a crucial part of life; this is the part where most people commit mistakes,
they transition from being young to being an adult. They are on the journey of finding themselves
so they are in constant change and explore themselves in different ways. With that being said, let
us let them be young while guiding them properly into adulthood without taking away their
freedom as a human.
