DEMONSTRATION TEACHING
Lesson Plan in Science 5
Date & Time: February 7, 2023/5:30-7:00 PM

A. Content Standard
The learner demonstrates understanding of distance using measuring tools
and correct standard units.
B. Performance Standard
The learner transfers learning by problem solving using measuring tools and
correct standard units.
C. Learning Competency:
Use appropriate measuring tools and correct standard units. (S5FE-IIIb-2)
I. OBJECTIVE/S
a. Identify distance, measuring tools and correct standard units.
b. Appreciate the advantages of using measuring tools and correct standard units.
c. Convert metric units in problem solving.
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
Topic: Measuring Tools and Correct Standard Units
III. LEARNING RESOURCES:
References: pg. 71 of 203, cg 2016, Science 5
Instructional Materials:
Smart TV
Laptop
Powerpoint Presentation
Speaker
Printed Materials
IV. PROCEDURE
Daily Routine
Prayer, Greetings, Attendance
A. NEED TO KNOW
The teacher will show a picture on the screen and will ask some learners,
What this picture reminds us?
REVIEW
Form Me!
The teacher will provide puzzle materials for each group and they will form the
picture and will identify its name. They will be given 5 minutes (shown in PPT) to
do their task.
- Picture of a Ruler, Meter Stick, and Tape Measure

B. MOTIVATION
The teacher will show on the screen the following questions for learners to be
guided on their activity.
1. Why do we need to be able to measure things?
2. Suppose we wanted to measure a 2x4 for building a house. Can you build it
without number or unit?
C. LESSON PROPER
A. ACTIVITY
Measure Me!
With the same group, they will be given materials for their activity. They will be
given 5 minutes to do their work and answer the guided questions. Learners will write
their answer in their notebook.
The teacher will show on the screen the guided questions.
1. What is the measurement of the width of the board in centimeter and in meter?
2. What is the measurement of the height of your teacher’s table in centimeter and
in meter?
Task 1:
1. Measure the width of the board and write units in centimeter and meter.
2. Measure the height of teacher’s table and write units in centimeter and meter.
B. ANALYSIS:
The teacher will view on the screen the following questions and ask them to
share their ideas.
1. What did you do in your task?
2. What measuring tools did you used in measuring the width of the board and
the height of your teacher’s table?
3. What units of measurements did you used?
4. What do you think will happened if you used your hand in measuring those
things?
5. How about measuring the distance from your house to school using ruler?
C. ABSTRACTION:
The teacher will let the learners to define the following as what they seen on
the screen.
* Distance- the length of the path between two points.
* International System of Units (SI Units) – the system of measurement
* Meter (m) – the SI for measuring distance
* Advantages of using International System of Units
1. Using measuring devices gives precise and exact measurement
2. Standards of measurement help people process their date accurately
3. It makes calculations with the system relatively easy
* Measuring Length:
Large Distance – kilometer (km)
Small Measurement – centimeter (cm)
Conversion:
1 km = 1000 m
1m = 100 cm
1 cm = 10 mm
* Explicit Teaching
I Do-You Do-I Do
Example: 1. 16 km = _____ m 3. 135 mm = _____cm
2. 255 m = ____ cm 4. 189 m = _____km
*Measuring Devices/Tools
1. Ruler 3. Tape Measure 5. Opisometer
2. Meter Stick 4. Measuring tape
D. APPLICATION
Task 2. Conversion
Learner will be given 5 minutes to do their task.
Convert the following:
1. 5 km = ______ m 3. 350 km = ______m 5. 120 cm = _____m
2. 8 m = _______cm 4. 120 cm = ______mm

Task 3. Group Activity. They will be given 10 minutes to do their task.

Differentiated Instruction

Group 1. Complete the diagram of measurements

Tools/Devices Unit of Measures Covert
1. Length of a Pencil kl
2. School to your house mm
3. Your height cm
4. Polo to Cannery m
Group 2. Compose at least 2 stanza and recite a poem about measurement
Group 3. Make a dialogue on how to solve the situation given.
Your teacher want to know the distance in kilometer of Anna’s house to Alex’s
house. The distance of Merry’s house to Anna is 30 meters and 35 meters from
Merry to Alex.
Group Presentation/Reporting
V. EVALUATION:
Direction: Answer the questions correctly. Write your answer in ½ crosswise. You will
be given 5 minutes.
A. Enumerate the five (5) tools/devices in measuring distance.
B. Conversion
6. 12 kl = _______ m
7. 235 cm = _______ m
8. 235 cm = _______ mm
9. 1250 m = _______ kl
10. 1250 m = _______ cm
B. Explanation
Rubrics
5 points Provides correct answer with example/s.
3-4 points Provide correct answer without example/s.
1-2 points Provide answer but out of content.

11-15. How will you appreciate measurements especially while traveling long
distance?
