Learning Competency: The learner describes well-defined sets, subsets, universal sets, and the null set and cardinality of sets.
Code: M7NS-Ia-1

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a) Describe and illustrate subset, universal set, null set and cardinality of set.
b) Identify the number of elements or its cardinality;
c) Perform problem-solving involving sets;
d) Realized the significance and application of sets in real-life situation.

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY (Response)
A. Review
Good morning class! Good morning, sir Chris!
Today, we will have a new lesson to be discuss. But let’s have
first a recap. What we have discussed yesterday? “As I remember, we discussed about set. A set is defined as a
collection of well-defined objects called elements that share
common characteristics.”
Prepared by: Very good!
Who can give the two ways of describing a set? “These are Roster Method and Rule Method.”
ANDRES, Great!
CHRISTOPHER B. Motivation
Teacher I Okay class, how do you feel right now? “We are okay sir, “lumalaban”.
Frustrated!
I hope that everyone is doing great despite the frustrations and
challenges that you've encountered every day. All I want to say is
that "Never give up on your dreams. No matter how hard it is,
keep striving and never stop believing in yourself. Even if you
stumble along the way, get back up and keep going. You are
capable of achieving anything you set your mind to. Believe in
yourself and keep going one step at a time." “Yes sir!”
C. Presentation of Objectives
The teacher will present the objectives of the day. (student’s listen attentively)
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a) Describe and illustrate subset, universal
set, null set and cardinality of set.
b) Identify the number of elements or its
cardinality;
c) Perform problem-solving involving sets;
d) Realized the significance and application
of sets in real-life situation.
D. Lesson Proper
Activity (10 minutes)

Instructions: There are three (3) boxes below, and all the boxes
contain different questions. What you are going to do is to answer
Expected responses:
it according to what is asked.

1st box: set U contains the set of all letters of the English
Alphabet.
U=
{a , b , cp,,dq,,er ,, fs ,,tg,u, h,,vi,, wj ,,kx,,l,ym, z,n ,o ,}
2nd box: 2.1) set A whose elements are less than seven.
A = { 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 }
2.2) F = {x| x is a factor of 4}
F = { 1,2,4 }
3rd box: set M is the set of months with 32 days.
M = { } or Ø

Analysis
Based on your activity, what do you observe? “As I observed in the first box, the set is well-defined while in the
second box, the elements of set F are in the element of set A.
Lastly the third box, since there is no thirty-two days in a month
therefore, set M is empty.”
“Excellent answer!”

How many elements are there in set U? “It has 26 elements.”

“Very good!”
Abstraction (15 minutes)
Since everyone has a basic concept about set, we will now (The student’s listen attentively)
proceed to another kind of sets.
Based on our activity in the first box is what we call universal set
– it is a set that contains all the elements under consideration.
The symbol for universal set is U. For example, set U contains the
set of days of the week.

U=
{SundayThursday
, Monday , Tuesday , Wednesday ,
, Friday , Saturday } Expected answer:
Let’s try!
set U contains the set months in a year

{ }
January , February , March , April , May , June ,
July , August , September , October , November ,
“Very good!”
December
Subset – given any two set A and B, if every element in A is also
in b, then A is a subset of B. The symbol “A ⊆ B” is read A is
subset of B. For instance, A = { 2,4,6 , } B =
{ 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 , }
