Integration
A. L. Nawroz Ibrahim
Integration:

• Finding Antiderivatives for each derivative, describe the original

function F.
What strategy did you use to find F?

Direct Substitution Method:
• There are occasions when it is possible to perform an apparently
difficult piece of integration by first making a substitution. This has
the effect of changing the variable and the integrand.
• When dealing with definite integrals, the limits of integration can also
change.
• Integration by substituting u = ax + b
• Finding ∫f(g(x))g ′ (x) dx by substituting u = g(x)
• Integration by substituting u = ax + b
• Example: revert to an expression involving the
• original variable x;
∫(𝑥𝑥 + 4)5 𝑑𝑑𝑑𝑑 , let u = x + 4
𝑢𝑢6 (𝑥𝑥+4)6
•∫ 𝑢𝑢5 𝑑𝑑𝑑𝑑 = + 𝑐𝑐 = + 𝑐𝑐

• Ex2:

𝑑𝑑𝑑𝑑 = 3𝑑𝑑𝑑𝑑
