• Students should be able to explain the NINE leadership roles in


contextual leadership.

• This model which build on earlier concept, put additional emphasis on the
importance of context and personal adaptation.
• The main assumption stated that “Leaders, regardless of title, ranks, or
position, must occasionally influence others in a way that causes them to
perform at level that might not otherwise possible”.
• There is no doubt on the importance of leadership, and experiences
showed that unexpected and unanticipated challenges and opportunities
surfaces on daily basis, and leaders must act upon it.
• Hence Leaders must take specific roles to address those circumstances.
• Based on this assumptions, Simmerson argued there are NINE leadership
roles that can be utilized to address such requirements of the situation.
• Individuals as Leaders can take any of these NINE roles with intentional
focus. These roles can come naturally and can be learned as well.
