Discussion

Types of Projectile Motion

I. Projectile Released Horizontally (θ = 0°)
 No initial velocity
 v y increases (along vertical)
 v x decreases (along horizontal)

II. Projectiles Launched at an Angle (θ > 0°)

When a projectile is launched upward at an angle, its velocity has two components:
1. a constant horizontal velocity that moves in the same direction as the launch, the acceleration of which is zero; and
2. an upward positive vertical velocity component that is decreasing in magnitude until it becomes zero at the top of the trajectory
(therefore it no longer goes up any further). But because gravity makes it accelerates downward at a rate of 9.8 m/s per second or
9.8 m/s2 , (therefore it stays at rest only for an instant) it will start to descend with an increasing negative vertical velocity until it is
stopped by something.

 The vertical velocity v y increases as the body reaches the highest point.
 The vertical velocity v y is zero when reached the highest point.
 The vertical velocity v y decreases as the body falls from the highest point.
 The horizontal velocity v x remains constant.

B. Development Video Analysis

SCIENCE 9: PROJECTILE MOTION (Relationship of Angle of Projection, Range, and Height)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhVbWVZa9xg
The students will analyze the video that
shows projectile launched at different angle.
The students will describe how the angle
affects the height and range of the object
launched.

Reminders:
 Raise your right hand to be called to
answer the question.
 Wait for your turn to be called. Avoid butting in.
 If you can’t answer, politely tell the teacher and ask
help from your classmates.

Task 1: Figure Analysis

The motion of a projectile may be described in terms of range and
the maximum height it reaches. But what affects these kinematic quantities? Below is a figure of the height reached and range
covered by a projectile launched at the same initial velocity but at different angles. Study it carefully and answer the questions that
follow.

Questions:
1. How do you describe the height reached by the projectile at different
projection angles?
2. At what angle does it reach the highest? the lowest?
3. Does the projection angle affect the maximum height reached? Why
do you say so?
4. How do you describe the range covered by the projectile at different
projection angles?
5. At what angle/s does it reach the farthest? the nearest?
6. What angles cover the same range? What do you call these angles?
7. Does the projection angle affect the range covered? Explain briefly.
Individual Worksheet (printed) is
provided for the learners with visual
impairment.
C. Engagement Figure Analysis
Learning Task 2: Choose the letter that correctly describes the motion of the basketball at different positions as indicated in the
diagram below.
Objective 8:
Applied a range of successful strategies that maintain learning
environments that motivate learners to work productively by
assuming responsibility for their own learning.
Objective 9: Designed, adapted and implemented teaching
strategies that are responsive to learners with disabilities,
giftedness and talents.
 Printed activity sheet
D. Assimilation Situation Analysis

Slingshot is one of the tools used to get food by our brethren from indigenous group. Supposed you are using a slingshot to get a
fruit, what are the factors you need to consider in using it to get a fruit from a height?

Objective 10:
Adapted and used culturally appropriate
teaching strategies to address the needs of
learners from indigenous groups.
 Slingshot (Tirador) is one of the tools
used by indigenous people in hunting
food and even self defense.

V. REFLECTION Valuing

The students will reflect on the question.

They will answer based on their experience
and point of view.
What is the importance of having a
well-balanced self-esteem and
self confidence in a person’s journey in life?

A. No. of learners who earned

80% in the evaluation
B. No. of learners who require
additional activities for
remediation who scored
below 80%
C. Did the remedial lesson
work? No. of learners who
have caught up with the
lesson
D. No. of learners who continue
to require remediation
E. Which of my teaching
strategies worked well? Why
did these works?
F. What difficulties did I
encounter which my principal
or supervisor can help me
solve?
G. What innovation or localized
materials did I use/discover
which I wish to share with
other teachers?
