In the fictional novel “The Outsiders”, Johnny Cade is the most fascinating
character out of all the greasers and socs. The intrigue surrounding his
character can be attributed to his sensitive emotions, nervous behaviour, and
courageous personality. First of all, Johnny has been rather sensitive since his
childhood. When he tries to talk about how he accidentally killed Bob, tears
stream from his eyes as he abundantly cries. He developed his sensitivity from
all the years his parents abused and neglected him not even seeing him as their
child. Johnny's entire life was faced with struggles; he never gave up on life and
even made a new family which I found interesting. Additionally, Johnny took on
a very nervous and cautious behaviour ever since he got jumped. While Johnny
was taking a stroll near the gas station, some socs entered deep within the

greaser's territory and beat him to a critical state. Ever since this incident
Johnny has carried with him at all times a small pocket knife as well as kept a
watchful eye on his surroundings no matter where he was. What really piqued
my interest here was how instead of becoming traumatized by the socs, it
helped him grow more aware of his surroundings. Finally, Johnny is a great
example of a courageous hero who has lost his innocence. For instance, when
the Church is blazing with fire and screams are coming out from it, he doesn’t
flee but instead risks his life to save the children and unfortunately pays the
price a few days later. Even though Johnny killed Bob and is technically a
gangster, he is still a very admirable and courageous hero no matter his
background. To sum everything up, Johnny’s sensitive emotions, Nervous
behaviour, and courageous personality make him the most intriguing character
out of both gangs in “The Outsiders”.
