message confirming that there is a nail technician that’s available.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
I. Nail Spa Business Process
On a normal day of operations, the nail spa performs the following processes which are:
● Each nail technician is issued a manicure/pedicure kit.
● Cleaning and sanitizing the manicure kit is required after every job.
● One cleaning/sanitizing cycle usually takes 15 minutes.
● Consumable items such as alcohol, acetone, cotton, and nail polish are stored in the
shop only and can be requested from the receptionist for use.
● The jobs typically take approximately 60 minutes.
● When a job is completed, the nail technician hands a slip of paper to the customer
indicating the service that was done. The customer brings this to the receptionist
counter and pays for it.
● The receptionist issues a receipt for every payment.
● Here are some decisions involved in the process.
○ Reservations are done by phone call, SMS, or just walking in.
■ For walk-ins, if no one is available, the receptionist informs the customer
and asks if he/she is willing to wait or would rather set an appointment
for a later date/time.
■ Appointments can only be kept for 10 minutes past the actual time. If the
customer does not arrive until then, the appointment will be cancelled
and offered to other walk-in customers waiting.
○ The customer chooses a design from the catalog, and shows it to the assigned
technician. If the customer can’t make a decision, the technician provide
recommendations.
○ Before starting, the nail technician must first check if they have an adequate
supply of consumable materials (alcohol, acetone, cotton, massage oil, and nail
polish). If not, they may request these from the receptionist and sign the logbook
request for supplies.
○ The receptionist checks if the customer is satisfied with the service, if not, they
may have the service redone or receive a voucher as a refund.
METHOD GUIDE
I. Business Overview
Katie found her success in the nail spa business by knowing her customers and making a
point that they are fully satisfied with the service. She doesn’t do a lot of marketing and
advertising. For her, what she found effective in growing her business is through “word of
mouth”, recommendations given by satisfied customers to their friends, and their friends’
friends.
II. Method
Refined, Improving Services and Expenditures Method
Refined means developed or improved so as to be precise or subtle. For the nail spa business,
we have developed our service through adding a new service which is the home service.
Improving Services meaning, as we refined our service into home service, we have also
improved by using a mobile spa which is more efficient for our new service.
Expenditures meaning, is the action of spending funds or the amount of money spent. For the
nail spa business, we invested practically for our mobile spa` but with our home service, we
earn more because it’s going to be patronized.
A. The RISE (Refined, Improving Services and Expenditures) Business Method is focused
mainly on what the nail spa business does. So, this business method works on 2
seperate ways which are the following:
Cost efficient
b. The business applies a method that allows the business to have a more proper
service than the services before. The method serves as a milestone to spend practically rather
than too much but in the end they will earn much more.
RECOMMENDED SUMMARY
For the nail spa business, we recommend the following:
1. For process
a. Organize the nail spa processes (as shown in the process flowchart above) by
first having a goal, knowing the start and end points, and all the decisions and
outcomes involved in the process. This needs to be done daily to ensure all the
owner, receptionist and the nail technicians would be able to do all their tasks
for the day and to ensure that the customers would be satisfied with the new
service of the Nail Experts.
2. For people
a. Make an organizational chart of the nail spa business to know all who are
involved in the business and how they could contribute to making the business
successful. After, we recommend to have a detailed description of all the
responsibilities and tasks each person involved in the business have so that they
would know what to accomplish for a day or for a given period of time.
The R.I.S.E method will have a positive effect for process , because of our unavailability to
accommodate customers in walk-ins many reservations are cancelled. Improving our service
into home service(Refined), will help the spa to accommodate more customers without
affecting the services in the shop.
The RISE business method helps the Process part in a way where it would organize the
flowchart the business has in the process part. For the People part, the business method would
help the process part in a way where the people in the nail spa business would know what the
tasks and responsibilities are to do with the business. For the tools and equipment, it would
help with the things the nail technicians need to use.
The RISE business method relates with the Process part in a way that it can speed up the daily process of
the nail spa business because this will help on how are we going to accommodate the client’s need
without any restrictions and for organizing the tasks and responsibilities.
