Quarter: One Week No: 3 Day 1

I. OBECTIVES
Content Standard Demonstrate understanding of ways of sorting materials and
describing them as solid, liquid or gas based on their
observable properties.
Performance Standard Be able to group common objects found at home and in
school according to solids, liquids and gas.
Learning Describe different objects based on their characteristics
Competencies S3MT-lc-d-2
Knowledge Describe the shapes of liquids in different containers

Presenting the new lesson:

Teacher will prepare and present these materials on the table

(water, coke, orange juice and milo) Let the children observe
the materials.
Ask: Will the liquids follow the shapes of the containers?
(Answer: Yes, the liquid follows the shapes of the containers.)

B. Motivation Ask: Are you drinking juices? (Answer: yes)

What do you notice when your pour it in a container?
(Answer: It follows the shape of the container.)

(Let the pupils observe again the materials on the table) Let
them examine the glass with water.

Ask the pupils to pour the water into an empty container.

Ask: Do you see an empty space in the glass?
(Answer: No, because it is already filled with water.)
Can you describe the shape of the water in the glass?
(Answer: yes, the shape of the water forms the shape of the
container.)
Do they have the same shapes? (Answer: No, they differ in
shapes.)
Will the liquids follow the shapes of the containers?
(Answer: yes, liquids will follow the shapes of the containers)
C. Activity See Attachments:
A.1 Rubrics of Group Activity
A.2 Activity 1: Do Liquids Take the shape of Their
Containers
D. Analysis Observations of the different groups will be used to process
the following questions: The teacher will ask questions
according to the observations made by the pupils from the
activity.
Answer the following questions:
1. Did the liquids take the shape of their containers?
(Answer: Yes, the liquids take the shape of their
containers.)
2. Did the liquids take the space in their containers?
Why? (Answer: Yes. The liquid filled up the space in
the container.)
3. Will you describe shapes of liquids in different shapes
of containers? (Answer: Liquids have no shapes. They
take the shape of the containers.)
4. What characteristic of liquids did you learn from the
activity? (Answer: Liquids have no shapes and they
take the shape of the containers.

E. Abstraction Liquid has the ability to flow. They do not have definite shape
but when they are poured in containers, they take the shape
of the container. The forces between liquid particles are
weaker than the forces between solid particles. This means
that liquid particles are further apart and can move about
more easily. Since the particles can move, the liquid can flow
and take the shape of its container. However, like solids,
liquids have a definite volume. This means they take up the
same amount of space in any container in which they are
placed.
F. Application Annie has a new mug. She poured water in it and another in a
glass. What are the shapes of the water in the two
containers? (Answer: shape of the mug and shape of the
glass.)
G. Practical When do we drink liquids/water?
Applications of (Answer: When we are thirsty.)
Concepts and Why do we need to drink liquids every day?
Skills in Daily (Answer: So that we will not be dehydrated and in order that
Living our body organs can function properly.)
H. Generalization Do liquids take the shape of the containers?
(Answer: Yes, liquids take the shape of the containers.)
Do liquids fill out the spaces in the containers?
(Answer: Yes, liquids fill out the spaces in the containers.)
Why you say that liquids take up spaces and shape of the
containers?
(Answer: Because liquids fill out the space of the containers.)
A liquid maintains a fixed volume, but its shape will mold to
the shape of the container it is being held in.
I. Evaluation Given two liquids in each container. Liquids A and B drawn
below.
I. Describe the two liquids according to shape and the
space it occupies.
a. What is the Shape of liquid A?

b. What is the Shape of Liquid B?

II. Draw five different containers full with liquid. Color the
shape of the liquid in each container in red, blue, green,
yellow and orange. (in any order)
J. Additional Find out three different containers. Pour any liquid in each
activities for then draw the shape of the liquids. Use your notebook in
application or doing your assignment.
