Horoscope Subversion

The Witches from Macbeth are iconic characters, known especially for their prophecies

given in strange equivocal lines. Equivocation is using purposefully hard to understand language

to conceal the truth or avoid giving answers. By it’s very nature, equivocation is difficult to

understand, so this assignment will help you practice with prophecies to better understand the

Witches’ important scenes.

To begin, you will go to horoscope.com, or any other horoscope resource that you prefer,

and find your horoscope based off your birthday. I recommend using a weekly or monthly

horoscope rather than a daily one, simply as they will have more content to work with. Once you

have your horoscope, your task will be to come up with some way to creatively respond to what

your horoscope says will happen.

e.g. my horoscope says to “let go of the idea of ‘perfection’ as you face your demons”

in responding to this, I could maybe write a story about having literal demons

show up, or have ‘perfection’ be a literal thing I let go of rather than the more

abstract concept

You are welcome to write a short story, create a picture, or a different method of respond

that you come up with, I ask that you tell me your idea before you start though so I can make

sure you are on the right track.
