DAILY LESSON LOG
March 21, 2023
DATE/TIME QUARTER THIRD
12:10 PM – 5:20 PM

I. OBJECTIVES
The learners demonstrate understanding of the factors that affect
A. Content Standard: climate, and the effects of changing climate and how to adapt
accordingly.

The learners should be able to participate in activities that reduce

B. Performance Standard:
risks and lessen effects of climate change.

Describe certain climatic phenomena that occur on a global level.

(S9ES-IIIf-31).

C. Learning At the end of the discussion, the students should be able to:
Competency/Objective
1. describe the effects of climate change;
2. differentiate El Niño and La Niña;
3. build awareness on how to adapt to climate change.

II. CONTENT Climate: Global Climate Phenomenon

III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pages Science 9 Teacher’s Guide page 29-35

2. Learner’s Materials pages LAS Science 9 Quarter 3 - Week 6 page 1-9

3. Textbook pages Science 9 Learner’s Material page 205-206

B. Other Learning
Resources
IV. PROCEDURES Teacher’s Response
A. Reviewing previous
lesson or representing Assess students' prior knowledge of the climate change. Let students
new lesson answer the following questions to validate students' acquisition of
knowledge.

Ask the students;

1. What is climate change?

2. What are the causes of climate change?

Cut-up-Photos

1. Cut up a photo showing the effect of El Niño and La Niña

phenomena into 8 pieces. Divide students into groups based
on the number of pieces from each picture puzzle.
2. Give each student in a group one of the pieces. Have each
student analyze the piece.
3. After they analyze each piece, have students join them together
like a puzzle.
4. Each group member can share his or her ideas with the group.
5. Students will create an overall interpretation uniting their
interpretations from the individual pieces.

B. Establishing the purpose

of the lesson

C. Presenting Examples/
Instances on the new The teacher will present pictures depicting El Nino and La Nina. Let
lesson the students analyze and give description about the pictures.

Ask the students;

1. What do the pictures have in common?
2. What climatic phenomena you can derive from the
pictures?

Let the students read the material provided in the module about the
Impact of Climate Change and El Niño and La Niña. Let them take
down notes on important points that could be used later in the
discussion.

Discuss the topic:

D. Discussing new
concepts
and practicing new skills
#1

Guide questions for the discussion:

1. What is El Niño?
2. What are the characteristics of El Niño?
3. What causes El Niño?
4. What is La Niña?
5. What are the characteristics of La Niña?
6. What causes La Niña
7. How do El Niño and La Niña affect weather patterns?
8. What are the impacts of El Niño and La Niña?

E. Discussing new concepts Compare and Contrast

and practicing new skills
#2
Let the students make a Venn Diagram differentiating El Niño and La
Niña phenomena.

El Nino La Nina

Ask the students;

1. How are they different?
2. How are they the same?
3. How are we adapting to the impacts of climate change?

The teacher will ask learners to think of a situation when change or a

new event was happening in their lives. What did they do to adapt to
this change or event.

F. Application Possible Scenario: Transition from Elementary to High School

(change in teachers, school environments)

The teacher will ask the learners to relate this to the climate change
adaptations.

Make a graphic organizer showing the differences of El Niño and

La Niña phenomena, on its characteristics and impacts to the
environment and people.

Climatic Characteristics Impact to the Impact to the

Phenomenon Environment People
G. Generalization
El Nino

La Nina

Read each question carefully. Answer the following questions briefly.

1. What are the two climatic phenomena that we encounter?

2. What is the phenomenon that we encounter when there is a
lengthy warming in the eastern part of the Pacific Ocean?
H. Evaluating Learning 3. What is the phenomenon that we encounter when there is
unusual cooling of water in the eastern part of the Pacific
Ocean?
4. What is the shared characteristics of El Niño and La Niña
phenomena?
5. Why is it important to take actions against climate change?
