ELICIT Strategy: Gamification
Activity Name: Pass the Box
Time: 5 minutes

Instruction: The students will play “Pass the Box” while

listening to a song, whoever is holding the box after the
music stops will pick a question and answer it.

Questions in the box:

1. What is Energy Transformation/Transformed Energy?

2. What is Energy Source?
3. Give me an example of an Electrical Energy to Sound
Energy.
4. Give the Energy Source of the Bulb as well as its
Transformed Energy.
ENGAGE Strategy: Jigsaw Puzzle
Activity Name: Complete Me!
Time: 3 minutes

Instruction: Each row must provide 1 student representative

to solve the puzzle on the board and try to identify what
picture is formed in the puzzle. You only have 3 minutes to
do that and this is done simultaneously.

Picture A.

Picture B

Picture C

Comprehension Check:
 Do you have any idea what these pictures all about?

EXPLORE Strategy: Matching Type

Activity Name: Reconnecting…
Time: 2 minutes

Instruction: Match the simple machines in the Column A with

their definition in the Column B. Write the letter of the correct
answer.
Column Column B
A
Lever a. is a simple machine that has a sloping
surface. It lessens the effort exerted in
transporting weight over a distance and
height.
Wheel b. a device which has a fulcrum or a pivot
and Axle point, the effort end where force is
applied, and the resistance end where
the load is located.
Pulley c. is a double inclined plane that is
sharpened to an end. It adds more
force to the effort as it goes through a
longer distance.
Inclined d. is a form of inclined plane that is
Plane wrapped around a central shaft.
Wedge e. is a modified wheel and axle. It is a
special type of wheel that has rope
sliding on the groove of the wheel. The
groove prevents the rope from sliding.
Screw f. has the same appearance with a pulley,
but it has a wheel that is fixed to the
axle, like in the steering wheel of a car.
EXPLAIN Strategy: Discussion
Activity Name: Let’s go, Let’s Learn!
Time: 10 minutes

Q: Can you identify the simple machines that you use

every day? If so, how do these machines work for you?

Any tools that helps you to do work faster and using less
effort are called machines. When you use a machine, two
forces are involved. The Input Force and Output Force.

Input force- is the force you apply on the machine. When

you apply force, you perform work that is called work input.

Output force- the machine exerts this force on the load that
needs to be moved. The work done by the machine is called
work output.

There are two types of machine. The simple machines and

the compound machines.

Simple Machines- are simple tools that multiply the amount

of force to make work easier. It is the basis of all the
mechanical devices we use today.

Kinds of Simple Machines

ELREV-LEVER
a device which has a fulcrum or a pivot point, the effort end
where force is applied, and the resistance end where the
load is located.

Example: Scissors, See-saw, Wheelbarrow

INDINCEL PELNA-INCLINED PLANE

is a simple machine that has a sloping surface. It lessens the
effort exerted in transporting weight over a distance and
height.

Example: Slide, Wheelchair Ramp, Slope

EDWGE-WEDGE
is a double inclined plane that is sharpened to an end. It
adds more force to the effort as it goes through a longer
distance.

Example: Knives, Blade, Axe

WECRS-SCREW
is a form of inclined plane that is wrapped around a central
shaft. With less effort applied on it, screw increases the force
applied on the object, which makes the work easier.

Example: Screw driver

YULPEL-PULLEY
is a modified wheel and axle. It is a special type of wheel
that has rope sliding on the groove of the wheel. The groove
prevents the rope from sliding. The axle on the other hand,
serves as the mounting bracket that attaches or holds the
wheels so that it turns as the rope slides.

Kinds of Pulleys
 Fixed Pulley- is generally hung, making the wheel
stationary in position. It can lift an object easier by
changing the direction of the effort force. Ex.
Flagpoles

 Movable Pulley- is the complete opposite of fixed

pulley. The entire wheel, together with the axle,
travels along the rope. A movable pulley is hung on a
rope and hooked to a resistance. Ex. Zip lines

 Block and Tackle- is a combination of movable and

fixed pulley. This block and tackle combines the
direction-changing ability of the fixed pulley and the
force-multiplying ability of the movable pulley. Ex.
Construction area

HELWE and XLEA-WHEEL and AXLE

has the same appearance with a pulley, but it has a wheel
that is fixed to the axle, like in the steering wheel of a car. It
refers to the assembly formed by two discs of different
diameters mounted so that they rotate together around the
same axis.
Ex. Bicycle wheel, Manibela and door knob.
ELABORATE Strategy: Oral Questioning
Activity Name: Now I know
Time: 5 minutes

Generalization:
1. In your own words, describe the meaning of the
Simple Machines.
2. Explain the importance of simple machine in your
daily activities.
3. Identify the different kinds of Simple Machines.

EVALUATION A. Multiple Choice

1. What kind of simple machine has a sharp edge that

can split things apart?
a. Wheel and axle
b. Wedge
c. Screw
d. Pulley

2. What kind of simple machine has a rod that goes
through the wheel and it lets the wheel turn?
a. Wheel and axle
b. Wedge
c. Screw
d. Pulley

3. What kind of simple machine is made up of a
wheel and a rope that fits on the groove of the wheel?
a. Wheel and axle
b. Wedge
c. Pulley
d. Screw

4. What kind of simple machine has a board or bar
that rests on a turning point and moves around to
increase and decrease effort?
a. Lever
b. Inclined Plane
c. Screw
d. Pulley

5. What kind of simple machine has a flat surface that is
higher on one end and use to move an object to a lower
of higher place?
a. Lever
b. Inclined Plane
c. Screw
d. Pulley

B. Collage Making

Instruction: The teacher will group you into six; each group
will create a collage and will be assigned to one particular
kind of simple machines. Per group must provide an
example pictures (can be from magazines, newspapers and
if printed use old bond papers) regarding the machine and
paste it in an illustration board. Do it creatively.

Materials:
 Scissors
 Glue
 ¼ Illustration Board
 Assigned simple machine pictures
(GO GREEN: cut from old magazines, flyers, newspapers
or print using scratch papers)
 Any kind of materials for arts and crafts
 Other Paper Materials (Construction, Art Paper, etc.)

Procedure:
1. Collect the materials needed for making a paper collage.
2. Develop a theme.
3. Cut your pictures based on your preferred shape, style, and
size.
4. Assemble the pieces before you glue them.
5. Glue the pictures.
6. Decorate your illustration board using the art materials.
7. You can add other designs/embellishments on your work.
8. Let it dry and finalize your group work.
