CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

The development of country is based according to the

communication facilities each of other. To achieve use things, communication
is very essential from one person to another person communication by letters;
the post office is main role.Hence facilities for post office is very essential
Kadavarayan patti is small village which is under punalkulam panchyat and
it is center for all Engineering, polytechnic colleges, schools and many
villages. So, the new sub post office has to be constructed with load bearing
walls androof with R.C.C slab and brick masonary.

LOCATION OF CASE STUDY

• PLACE: Thirukanurpatti
• AREA: 900 Sq.ft
SPECIFICATION:
Cash counter

2
CHAPTER 3
SYNOPSIS
• The engineering profession must have a clear idea about PLANNING,
DESIGNING AND ESTIMATING cost analysis of civil engineering
structure.

• Have the above in mind we have taken the planning, designing and
analysis of SUB POST OFFICE BUILDING AT KADAVARAYAN
PATTI as our project.

• The plan area is = 46m²

• The cost of Building = Rs.5,00,000/-

• The design of RC members are done using IS 456-2000 in limit state

method. The rate analysis is done using current schedule of rate for the
year 2016-2017.

CHAPTER 5
SITE SELECTION
PLACE: KADAVARAYAN PATTI

• LEVEL AT THE SITE:

The level at the site must be higher then that of its surrounding so as to
provide good drainage.

• CLIMATE CONDITION:
The intensity of the rainfall and sub soil water level should be low as to
avoid dampness in the building.

• SUB-SOIL CONDITION:

A hard strata should be available at a reasonable depth so as to

construct the foundation of the building safely and economically.

• AVAILABILITIES OF MODERN AMENITIES:

The site must be within municipal limits so that modern amenities
like water supply, electricity, drainage, road, etc.. Can made available
inner future if there is no provision at present.

• AVAILABILITES OF OTHER FACILITIES:

The site should provide as easy access from the nearest road and after
sufficient light and air, these should be good and cheap transport facilities
available near the site, it is always better if public service like fire
brigade, police station etc.

5
• SURROUNDING:
The situation and surrounding of the site must as to suit the purpose for
which the building it to be constructed.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The detailed specification is a detailed description and expresses the

requirements. The detailed specification of an item of work specifies the
quality and quantities of materials the proportion of morter. Workmanship. The
method of preparation of work and excavation and the method of measurement
the detailed specification item of work are prepared separately and describe
what the work should be and how they shall be executed. Detailed
specification are written to express the requiremends clearly in a conscience
from avoiding repetition ambiguity the detailed specification are arranged as
per order as the work is carried out the detailed specification of prepared
properly are very helpful for the execution of work.

The detailed specification from an importand part of contract document. Every

engg. Department prepared , the detailed specifications on various items of
work and get them printed in order book from under the name . Detailed
specification when the work or a structure or project is taken up instead of
waiting detailed specification every time the printed detailed specification are
referred . The detailed specifications of various items of work are as follows:-

EARTH WORK FOR FOUNDATION

As the soil is found to be gravelly soil and integrated rocks the earth

work will be carried out to a depth of 1.5 m below the ground level. The
foundation concrete 1:5:10 mix using 40mm hard granite broken stone jelly will
be provided to a depth of 600mm , 300mm to a width of 1200mm,
750mm,600mm, respectively.

22
o Foundation should be of 1st class brick work in lime or cement
morter over a bed of lime or cement concrete.

o The basement will be brickwork in CM 1:5 to a height 600mm

from ground level
.
DAMP PROOF COURSE

o D.P.C in cement morter 1:3 mix 20mm thick 2% water proofing

compound and crude oil at 25% by weight of cement used will be
laid over the entire with basement at plinth level.

o D.P.C. shall be of minimum 40mm (4cm) thick cement concrete

(1:2:4) with two coat of hot bitumen layer on it.

o Plinth should be of 1st class brick work in lime or cement morter

over a bed of lime or cement concrete.

BRICK WORK

o Walls are provided to enclose or divide the floor space in desire

pattern in addition wall provided privacy security and give
protection against sun, rain, cold and other undesired effect of the
weather.
o Super – structure shall be of 1st class brick masonary 200mm thick
in CM 1:5.

LINTEL AND SUNSHADE

o Lintels over door, window and ventilator will be of RCC 1:2:4

mix using 20mm size hard broken stone jelly with main tensile
reinforcement sunshade will also be the same with necessary

23
reinforcement.
CONCLUSION

We come to the concluding part of the project a SUB POST OFFICE

BUILDING AT KADAVARAYAN PATTI. A complete planning of these
project sectional details has been prepared and reinforcement details are
enclosed. Various components such as dome cover slab, cylindrical walls,
rectangular beam, floor slab, and footing are designed by working stress method
M20 grade concrete and Fe 425 steel. In project the code as per provisions 1978
and IS 456-2000.The estimating of the sub post office building at Kadavarayan
patti has been done using current schedule of rates.
