DESIGN OF SLAB:-

FLOOR FINISH=1𝐾𝑁/𝑚2
LIVE LOAD=2 𝐾𝑁/𝑚2
𝑙𝑥 = 4000𝑚𝑚, 4𝑚
𝑙𝑦 = 4000𝑚𝑚, 4𝑚
𝑙𝑥 4
𝑙𝑦
=4=1<2
∴This is two way slab

Step 1: EFFECTIVE DEPTH (CL 23.2.1)

𝐸𝑓𝑓.𝑠𝑝𝑎𝑛
𝐸𝑓𝑓.𝑑𝑒𝑝𝑡ℎ
=20 × modification factor

Fs= 0.58 fy
=0.58 × 415
=240 N/𝑚𝑚2

𝐴𝑠𝑠𝑢𝑚𝑒𝑑𝑝𝑡. =0.4%

∴modification factor=1.3

𝐸𝑓𝑓.𝑠𝑝𝑎𝑛
Effective Depth=
20× 𝑚𝑜𝑑𝑖𝑓𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑓𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑜𝑟

4000
=
20× 1.3

=153.85≈160mm

Assuming nominal cover ≈ 20mm

And bar diameter =8mm

Overall Depth = d+20+82

= 160+20+4
=184mm≈190mm

STEP 2:- LOAD, Mu, Vu

DL of slab=0.19×1×2.5
=4.75 KN/m

TABLE 27:- IS 456:2000

Floor Finish=1 KN/m

Live Load= 2 KN/m
Total Load=8.75 KN/m
Ultimate Load = 1.5×8.75
=13.125 KN/m

𝑙𝑦
𝑙𝑥
=44=1
𝛼𝑥=0.062
𝛼𝑦 =0.062

Mx=× 𝑥 × 𝑤 × 𝑙 × 𝑥2
=0.062×13.125×42
=13.02×106Nmm

STEP 3:- Calculation of Mu lim,

Annex G, Cl 4.1.1(c)
𝑀𝑢𝑙𝑖𝑚 =0.138×fck×𝑏𝑑2
=0.138×25×1000×1602
=88.32×106Nmm
∴𝑀𝑢𝑙𝑖𝑚 >𝑀𝑥
Also 𝑀𝑢𝑙𝑖𝑚 >𝑀𝑦

STEP 4:-Determination of Ast,

Since the span of shorter and longer span is same.

Annex 4 Cl 1.1(b)

𝐴𝑠𝑡×𝑓𝑦
𝑀𝑢𝑥 =0.81×fy×Ast×d×{1 − 𝑓𝑐𝑘×𝑏×𝑑}
𝐴𝑠𝑡×415
13.02×106=0.87×415×Ast×160×{1 − 25×1000×160}
Ast=230.92𝑚𝑚2

SPACING

Using 8mm Φ bar

𝑎𝑟𝑒𝑎 𝑜𝑓 1 𝑏𝑎𝑟
= 𝐴𝑠𝑡
× 1000
𝜋
×82
=230.92
4
× 1000
=217.67mm≈210mm
210mm spacing for both longer and span.

Providing 8mm Φ bars @210mm c/c spacing along both the spans.

STEP 5:- Check for maximum spacing.

𝑆𝑚𝑎𝑥 = 3×d
=3×160
=480mm
𝑆𝑚𝑎𝑥 =300mm
Hence spacing OK.
STEP 6:- Check for Shear

For both direction,

𝑉𝑢 = 𝑤 × 𝑢 × 𝑙 × 𝑥𝛼
=13.125×42
=26.25KN
=26.25×103N
𝑉
𝜏𝑣 = 𝑉𝑢
𝑑
=26.25×1061000×100
=0.614
100×𝐴𝑠𝑡
𝑃𝑡. =
𝑏𝑑
=100×230.901000×160
=0.144

From table 19 of IS 456:2000

Overall depth=165mm
1.3−1.25
K=1.25+150−175×(165×150)
=1.27
𝐾𝜏𝑣 =1.27×0.29
=0.368
∴𝐾𝜏𝑣 >𝜏𝑣

Hence the slab is safe for Shear.

CALCULATION FOR DEVELOPMENT LENGTH:-

𝑀
Ld≤ 𝑉 1 +𝑙𝑜
𝑢

RHS,

M1=13.02×106 Nmm

𝑉𝑢 =26.25×103

250
𝑙𝑜 = 2
-20

=105mm

13.02×106
= + 105
26.25×103

=749.8mm

LHS:

𝛷𝜎𝑠
Ld=
4×𝜏×𝑏×𝑑

8×(0.87×415)
=
4×1.4×1.6

=322.366mm

LFS<RHS
Hence the design is safe in anchorage.
Bent up bars 8mmФ @210mm c/c
