2 Classes 210 Minutes Size: Metal Rose Kim Or Theresa Magee

Lesson Overview -Introduction of the Metal Rose

Notes:
-There will be a demo for the sheer.

-Students will be on step 1 and 2 of the projects

-Students will be focusing on breaking out sections of

sheet metal to make the rose

Class Profile
Notes:

(Will be determined during practicum)

Big Idea(s)
Complex tasks require the sequencing of skills

Complex tasks require different technologies and tools at

different stages

Curricular Competencies Understanding Context:

Engage in a period of empathetic observation to
understand design opportunities

Defining:
-Choose a design opportunity
-Identify criteria for success, intended impact, and any
constraints
Making:
Identify and use appropriate tools, technologies,
materials, and processes for production
Content Objectives By the end of the class students will know:
Notes: ● Basic metallurgy
● Operation of stationary equipment
● Selection of metal
● Identification of ferrous and non-ferrous

Language Objectives Terms:

Notes: ● Deburr ● sheer
● File ● Layout
● Gauge

Materials and Equipment Needed for this Lesson

22gauge Sheet metal Scribe/ruler Solder
Foot shear Center punch Aviation shears
Ballpeen hammer Hand drill Vice

Stages Learning Activities Time

1 Warm-up/ I will start off by doing attendance then going over the 10 Min
Hook Focus of the day
Notes: Mothers day presents!
Focus of the day:
-Stock Break out
-Introduction

2 Presentation Intro to project/Instructions 30 Min

Notes: ● I will show them an example of the completed
project
● Metal identification (galvanized, copper)
● Safety - edges are very sharp
Safety glasses are required for the duration of
this project. Sheet metal is very sharp when cut,
placement of hands when filing, drilling, shaping,
and cutting metal
● A run through of the machinery and hand tools
● Class expectations (clean up)
● A run through of all the steps involved
● Hand out of all the steps to follow along
3 Practice and -After going over the study guide and demos. 1 Hr 20
Production Min
Notes: -Students begin working on their project

-Breakout and layout will start

Cutting materials for Rose:

Cutting your metal: Steel sheet metal (22gauge)

Using a scribe and a ruler, measure out the sizes of the piece
required and use the foot shear to cut out the squares. Make sure
you have the proper sizes.

5”x5” piece
4”x4” piece
3”x3”piece
2”x2” piece

4 Closure I will call clean up 15 mins before the bell. Students will put 10 Min
Notes: their projects away and work as a class to clean up the shop
before the bell goes

Assessment/ I will be watching them work on the machines and seeing if

Evaluation of Students’ they are operating the machine safely. An important thing I
will be looking at is if they make a mistake are, they are
Learning
Notes:
correcting themselves

Reflection In this section I will write a reflection after each class. Some
After Class: guiding questions will be
- What went well?
- Could the class have been organized better?
- What could be improved?
- Would you try something different next time?
