Paragraph for Question Nos. 9 to 10

The absorption of infrared radiation causes excitation of the molecule from one vibrational level of
lower energy to same other vibrational level of higher energy ‘ Needless to say, like electronic energy,
vibrational energy of a molecule is quantized. A free C—O bond in carbonmonoxide molecules has a

bond order of 3. . It absorbs an IR radiation of a wave no. 2143.2 cm-1. When CO molecule

donates e- pair to any transition metal, the metal also donates e- pair of its d-orbital to the metal called
back bonding. This inturn reduces the total bond order of C—O bond from 3 to some smaller number
to insure tetravalency of ‘c’ atom. The vibrational frequency of the CO stretch must therefore
decrease. It has actually been found. Reduction of charge from –ve to zero to +ve, exerts decrease in
the tendency of back donation by metal.

The number of ways of choosing X and Y is 5NC2. Arranging the numbers {1, 2, ...., 5N} in five
rows as follows:
1, 6, 11, ........, 5N – 4.
2, 7, 12, ......., 5N – 3.
3, 8, 13, ......., 5N – 2.
4, 9, 14, ......., 5N – 1.
5, 10, 15, ....., 5N.
We see that X4 – Y4 will be divisible by 5 if both X and Y lie in the last row, or if they lie
anywhere in the first four rows. Thus the number of favorable ways is NC2 + 4NC2, so that the
probability of the required event is

3. D

Let x be a positive integer such that sum of the digits of its square is 33. Then 3|x2 3|x.
Therefore, 9|x2. But a number is divisible by 9 if and only if sum of its digits is divisible by 9.
Therefore, 9|33, which is not possible. Thus, there is no positive integer such that sum of the
digits of its square is 33. Therefore p = 0 < 1/11 < 1/7 < 1/3 < 1/2.
