WHAT’S NEW
Let us read and analyze the given picture and situation
to help us understand our lessons.

https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1420959/expedite-and-improve-ecq-ayuda-distribution-solon-tells-dswd-dilg

In this pandemic , people strictly follow the health

protocols implemented by the government to prevent the
spread of COVID-19.

They waited patiently for their turn to receive a

PHP 1000.00 ayuda as financial help from the government.
It will be a first come , first serve basis.

If a person is 15th in line , he or she will be served after

the 1._________ person. He or she will also be receiving the
same amount of 2._______________________.

This situation shows the importance of identifying ordinal

numbers and money. Learning such helps us to be in order
and fair.

We are grateful for the continuous help our

government is providing us . Let us support them by spending
the given ayuda to purchase our daily needs and by
keeping ourselves safe .

6
WHAT IS IT
LESSON 1: Ordinal Numbers

An ordinal number is a number defining a thing's position

in a series, such as “first,” “second,” or “third.”

To write ordinal numbers in symbol and in words,

connect the number with the letter st for numerals with the
number or digit 1 (1st, first), nd for numerals with the number
or digit 2 (2nd, second), rd for numerals with the number or
digit 3 (3rd, third), and th for numerals with the number or
digit 4 and above (4th, fourth).
Except for eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth (11th, 12th, 13th),
all other numbers take the letters th.
Below is the chart of ordinal numbers from 1 to 100 in
symbols and in words
Symbol Word Symbol Word
1st first 18th eighteenth
2nd second 19th nineteenth
3rd third 20th twentieth
4th fourth 21st twenty-first
5th fifth 22nd twenty-second
6th sixth 23rd twenty-third
7th seventh 30th thirtieth
8th eighth 31st thirty-first
9th ninth 32nd thirty-second
10th tenth 33rd thirty- third
11th eleventh 40th fortieth
12th twelfth 50th fiftieth
13th thirteenth 60th sixtieth
14th fourteenth 70th seventieth
15th fifteenth 80th eightieth
16th sixteenth 90th ninetieth
17th seventeenth 100th One hundredth
7
Here are examples in writing the ordinal numbers in symbols

1. Forty-fifth = 45th (use superscript th because of the ordinal

fifth)

2. Sixty-second = 62nd (use superscript nd because of the

ordinal second)

Here are examples in writing ordinal numbers in words.

1. 53rd = fifty-third (use the ordinal numbers rd because of the

last digit 3)

2. 71st = seventy-first (use st because of the last digit 1)

Now let us study these pictures to identify the ordinal

numbers being asked for.

1. Since Lito is 1st ( first ) in line, who do you think is in the 7th
position ? If your answer is Gina, then you are correct!

2. What ordinal number represents the last person in line?

If your answer is 10th ( tenth) , you are right!

3. If the point of reference is Jay who is 32nd in line, what

ordinal numbers will represent Riza and Roman?
Riza is 33rd ( thirty-third) in line since she is just next to Jay.
Roman is 29th ( twenty-ninth) in line since he is the third
person after Jay.

8
LESSON 2: Money

Our money here in the Philippines are in coins and bills.

Coins Bills

Our coins and bills are written in symbols and in words.

We write PHP or use the symbol ₱ ( peso sign) for bill. We

use the symbol ¢ ( centavo sign) for centavo or coin.

Analyze the chart on how our money is written and read.

Coins and Bills Symbol Words
1¢ or one centavo
PHP 0.01 or
₱ 0.01
5 ¢ or five centavos
PHP 0.05 or
₱ 0.05

9
10 ¢ or ten
PHP 0.10 or centavos
₱ 0.10
25¢ or twenty-five
PHP 0.25 or centavos
₱ 0.25
PHP 1.00 or one peso
₱ 1.00

PHP 5.00 or five pesos

₱ 5.00

PHP 10.00 or ten pesos

₱ 10.00

PHP 20.00 or twenty pesos

₱ 20.00

PHP 50.00 or fifty pesos

₱ 50.00

PHP 100.00 or one hundred

₱ 100.00 pesos

PHP 200.00 or two hundred

₱ 200.00 pesos

PHP 500.00 or five hundred

₱ 500.00 pesos

PHP 1000.00 one

or thousand
₱ 1000.00 pesos

10
Look at this example. There are many ways on how
PHP 125.00 be represented using our coins and bills.

₱ 125.00

But when a money has pesos and centavos such as this,

11
it will be written this way in symbols .
₱ 251.25 The numbers in the peso
and centavo will be read
peso centavo in two and written separately just
decimal places like how you read and write
whole numbers. So it is read
and written as…
Decimal point that separates
the pesos from the centavos . Two hundred fifty-one
It is read as and . pesos and twenty-five
centavos

Let us have more examples.

Using coins and bills Symbols Words
PHP 75.00 Seventy –
five pesos
or

₱ 75.00

PHP 500.10 Five

hundred
or pesos and
ten
₱ 500.10 centavos
PHP 212.25 Two
hundred
or twelve
pesos and
₱ 212.25 twenty-five
centavos
