◦ Topic: Do you think that the lockdown during the covid-19

pandemic was an essential measure in spite of the hardship it brought economically?
What would you have done differently and why?

The covid-19 pandemic spread was at an alarming rate over a couple of

months. The deadly corona virus as termed “covid-19 ‘’ claimed so many lives during
its rampaging spread and also rendered so many homes completely bittered and
shattered. The deadly virus was heard all around the world although it’s origin and
initial habitat has not yet been discovered some may say it was brought by an
Italian man, others may also say it was originally originated from China, all these
assumptions has not yet been certified. Over millions of deaths were recorded far
and beyond and so the lockdown measures was implored to curb and prevent the spread
of the virus. The so-called corona virus spreads rapidly through air. It is an air
borne disease; it is microscopic as the human eyes cannot see it.
The human activities includes movement from one place to another which
poses a great threat to the human lives as regards the deadly virus from hand
shaking to warm hug, greetings and to the piggy back ride the ignorance of humans
can silently sting them and slowly spread the venom round their body, it also come
with various symptoms like fever, catarrh, headache, vomiting, chest pain etc.
which are also the symptoms of other sickness such as malaria, typhoid and others
so therefore making victims unaware that they are infected with these virus.

The lockdown measure was the best and efficient measure that was taken,
to ensure that the spread of the virus could reduce to prevent more deaths. And
yes, despite the fact that the lockdown measure was the safest and urgent step to
take in reducing the arising of cases of death records, it still has some short
comings on the economy. Daily activities such as everyday buying and selling was
stopped, movements were being restricted as curfew was placed in different states.
How can lockdown measures be said to be best taken then? I know questions like this
lingered in so many people mind, but the step still had to be taken because this
was a door due situation and there were limited options.

Although I find it quite disturbing to know that many firms and

industries had great losses and people whose life also depended on the everyday
hustle just to make ends meet had been deprived of that privilege. One many say
that the lockdown measure decision led to the denial of their rights such as
‘’right to movement’’ forgetting that the basic right is the ‘’right to life’’ and
that is what the government was trying to secure ensuring that we all are safe.
This state of emergency led to the compromise of the other rights. Well I must say
that if I were in a position to make an urgent decision, one which may seem
difficult to adhere to but definitely yield a positive result, I will in no doubt
suggest the lockdown measure but there are still things I will do differently.
It is a well-known fact that in as much as there are numerous
houses all around there are still people who have nowhere to sleep, relax and feel
safe. These people are the less privileged and they should be the area of focus. On
busy days where market is bustling and with hundreds of people moving all around,
they still find it difficult to eat so now what will their fate be during the
lockdown, they might likely starve to their deaths. Now considering the unarguable
fact that the homeless and less privileged people are the most victims in the
covid-19 pandemic lockdown they should be well taken care of by providing a certain
building where they all can be confined in as they are also citizens of our country
and fed with good food, water and given clean clothes to wear too. The poor and
unemployed too shouldn’t be left out as free food should be distributed in remote
areas so as to support families which are financially unstable. Free treatments and
tests should also be administered and given to patients exhibiting the symptoms of
covid-19.
When all is said and done, I strongly believe that things would have
been better and many lives would have been saved.
