I. Proposed Project
“Viability of Gumamela (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Linn) petals and Atsuete (Bixa orellana
L) seeds as Alternative Ink for Markers”
II. Brief description of the proposed project (at least 5 sentences):
In this project, we will be observing and experimenting on petals of the gumamela flower and
atsuete seeds as components for alternative marker ink. The two aforementioned materials were
picked for their distinctive red-orange hue. Also, they are abundant and are commonly found and
seen in the average household. Moreover, several processes will be utilized to determine the
possibility of converting them into ink. Lastly, we will be observing the viability and
effectiveness of the product by testing it under different types of usage.
III. Reasons/Justification in choosing the topic (at least 5 sentences):
We took notice of the lack of red ink pens and markers among the students of Sta. Lucia National
High School. There are teachers who require their students to provide red-inked pens but due to
various personal constraints, some of them are not able to comply with that requirement. This
prompted our group’s initiative to have a research on this particular matter. Furthermore, we want
to introduce to students the usage of objects in our environment as alternative materials for things
we use in the daily. Lastly, we aspire to come up with an output that can be utilized by the whole
community, not just by the teachers and the students.
