ACTIVITY GUIDE AND FORMAT

Proposed Innovation / Research Design

Strand: STEM Grade Level: 12 Section: 2

Lead Researcher: Mhico Ezekiel G. Cruz
Assistant Researchers: Joyce R. Torres, John Arvin Medina

I. Proposed Project
“Viability of Gumamela (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Linn) petals and Atsuete (Bixa
orellana L) seeds as Alternative Ink for Markers”
II. Sketch of the Proposed Project

III. Brief Description of the Proposed Project

The final output aims to be similar or identical to commercial ink. Using the
extracts of the petals of gumamela and seeds of atsuete, it will have a bright, red
color with texture, consistency and aesthetics similar to that of commercial red
ink from the market.

IV. Projected Uses / Significance of the Proposed Project

1. The extracted ink will be able for usage in writing and coloring.
2. The extracted ink will be able for usage in dyeing pieces of cloth and textiles.
3. The extracted ink will be able for usage in printing and pressing.

VII. Safety Protocols to observe in conducting/making your proposed capstone

project
The group will employ safety procedures to ensure every one’s health and safety will not
be harmed or compromised during the process of conducting the project. The utilization
of gloves and goggles will be implemented during the procedures of ink extraction to
avoid splatter and heat-induced injuries. Furthermore, minimal handling will be
employed so as to not contaminate and tamper the product.
