Q & A / Opinions

Maam Charlotte: Is learning intention similar to learning objectives & success criteria to rubrics?

Speaker: The rubrics is assessment success criteria is formative. Success criteria, you’re using it for them
to complete the work, rubric is what you’re using to grade them later. Rubrics will say how to become
excellent in it, success criteria you’re just giving them the parts that you’re looking for. Rubric is grade
specific and scale specific, success criteria is use to form and inform and drive the progress. Rubrics and
criteria should go hand in hand, they should work together. Rubrics look for quality success criteria looks
for the pieces that they need to use to constructively create the knowledge.

Sir Mario: Clarification on success criteria…

Speaker:

Maam Comoc: sir, this is only a clarification for the class project grouping, is it important to mix bright
students to dull ones in order for them to influence each other or shall we see peer influence?

Speaker: peer influence in education in the research is not necessarily how student are influence by
peers outside of school. If you’re giving the students an opportunities to work with each other more
groupings than there will be influence happening within the groupings so I just wanna make sure that
the scope of that is. Yes and No, there will be times when you as a teacher will see that you have to put
together your student or organize your students one way or another way. But if youre intention is, for
example, Student A is really struggling, I already helped him or I cannot get to him, use it as a strategy,
you just need to know that it is a strategy. Now if youre gonna put the students who need help with the
students who don’t need help there is a chance that they learn from the other student. But its not a rule
for everyone, it is just you as a teacher knowing your intention that there is value to getting peer
influence.

There are different reasons as we decide on it as long as you know why you are doing it. But remember,
the mixed ability grouping, youre doing that because you want for them to collaborate, because you
want them to learn from each other. Know your student

Ma’am Daisy Catubig: Sir, on that note, in my research subject in the college, is it okay that I will group
students who are good together and another group who are not really good.... ? or should I mix them
together? or what can you advise?

Speaker: If it is with an intention of grading them if Group A is high performing, then mixed it with low
performing, basig ma drag sya. I don’t want you to think of grouping or mixed ability group if you intend
to grades a student because it might cause for the group not to reach the level that they intentionally
could reach. However, if the activity is formative which is you will not considered it as a basis for
grading, then its okay.

Question: Does it mean that the checklist will also reflect
