III. Teaching Procedure

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’ ACTIVITY

A. DAILY ROUTINE
1. Greetings
Good morning class! Good morning, Ma’am!

2. Prayer
May I request Helen to lead the prayer? Let us pray.
Heaven Father, we thank you for this wonderful
day you have given unto us. Thank you for the
strength and blessing you have showered upon
us. Lord, please forgive us for the sins we have
committed in the past. We also ask you to bless
us, guide us and give us wisdom; we continue
our lessons for this day. We thank you Lord and
this we ask in Jesus name. AMEN.

B. REVIEW
Let’s have a short recap/review about our
previous lesson.
Anyone from the group who can tell what Ma’am, it is all about Homonyms.
was our topic last meeting? Yes, Jasmine?

Okay, thank you. Who wants to share what Each of two or more words having the same
homonyms means? Yes, Joy? spelling or pronunciation but different meanings
and origins.

Very well said. Let’s give Joy a round of

applause.

C. MOTIVATION
Class, before we proceed to our next topic, I
have here different pictures I want you to
look closely at them. Notice the actions that
are shown in every picture.

What do you think the people are doing in Ma’am, the people in both pictures are cheering
these two pictures? Can we say that they are the players. Yes, they are basically the same.
just the same?

Well done! Now, let us take a look at the two

remaining pictures.

What do you notice on these pictures? Do Ma’am, the pictures show scenes which are not
they show similar actions just like those related to each other. They don’t show similar
actions shown in the pictures which we have actions scenes.
just looked at?

D. LESSON PROPER
1. Presentation:
Our topic for today is about synonyms and
antonyms. Are you familiar with these?
Maybe some of you are.

We will first tackle synonyms.

2. DISCUSSION:
Acquired – obtained, magnificent –
wonderful, attractive – gorgeous, trip –
journey, mistake – error

These words are examples of synonyms. The words are the same.
What can you say about synonyms?

What are synonyms? Synonyms are different

words that have the same meaning. They are
different words but if you look at the
dictionary they have the same meaning.

Can you give me more examples of Sad – happy, speak – talk, fast – quick, start –
synonyms that you know? begin, true – correct

Why do we use synonyms? These are two

reasons why.
a. Synonyms help create the mood of your
sentence according to who you are writing
for or what kind of image you want to
portray.

For example, ‘That is a nice car.’, but you

could write, ‘That’s an elegant automobile.’ if
your audience would respond more to the
image the sentence creates.

Please read the second one. b. Synonyms help to avoid repetition. You
can use synonyms of a word when you
have to write it twice in a sentence.

For example, “The children are singing,

they’re really great children.’’ It sounds
boring and repetitive. But if you change
children to kids it will be better.

Can someone change the second children on ‘The children are singing, they’re really great
the sentence to kids? Yes. kids.’

After knowing what synonyms are, let’s have

an activity.

On the right side of the board are words, find

their synonym on the left side.

Afraid - ____________ Afraid – scared

Occur - _____________ Occur – happen
Difficult - _____________ Difficult – hard
Accomplish - ___________ Accomplish – achieve
Laugh - _____________ Laugh – giggle
Enormous - ____________ Enormous – huge
Admit - _____________ Admit – confess
Awful - _____________ Awful – terrible
Delicious - ____________ Delicious – yummy
Depart - ____________ Depart – leave

Now that you totally understood what

synonyms are, let’s now go to antonyms. If
synonyms are different words but have the
same meaning, antonyms are words that
means the opposite of another word.
For example, encourage – discourage,
majority – minority, punishment – reward,
thick – thin, collect – distribute.

It’s easy right? Who can give me more Accept – reject, buy – sell, give- take, honest –
examples? dishonest, poor – rich.

Okay then, let’s have an activity regarding

antonyms.

Underline the word that is the opposite of

the word.

1. Joy (rough, sadness, wild)

2. Kind (cruel, good, lack)
3. Laugh (never, empty, cry)
