Lava Lamp

I. MATERIALS

 Container (jar/plastic bottle/glass)

 Another container (jar/plastic bottle/glass)
 3 tablespoons of Vinegar
 Vegetable oil
 2 tablespoons of baking soda
 Food Coloring
 LED light
 Dropper
 Funnel

II. PROCEDURE

1. In the container, put two tablespoons of baking soda.

2. Using a funnel, pour the vegetable oil into the container with baking soda until almost
full.
3. Next, on a separate container, pour three tablespoons of vinegar, and using a dropper,
add in four drops of food coloring then mix.
4. For the final step, add the mixture of vinegar and food coloring into the container with
vegetable oil and baking soda. The reaction will start and you will see colored blobs
floating.

III. RATIONALE

This experiment is designed for 11th grade students to demonstrate how chemical
reactions occur. The group will demonstrate the Lava Lamp experiment to demonstrate
how chemical reactions occur and what things may be used to conduct a chemical reaction
experiment. Students will bring supplies, adhere to the method, and carry out the selected
experiment. These will assist students in understanding what a chemical reaction is in
chemistry, as well as training the students' competence and talents. By doing so, the
students will be able to comprehend and assess the experiment they designed.
