Unit 3 INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES FRO MATHEMATICS

IN PRIMARY GRADES
Module No. 13 Use of Manipulatives
Student Name:
The following activity will challenge your creativity as you try to
modify the manipulative presented in Experience.

1. Make the customized protractor in Experience.

2. Try to use your D-I-Y protractor. Describe your experience.

When I was in elementary school, I rarely used a protractor to measure

CHALLENGE things. I don't care how long something is, as long as it's round. But
when I went to high school, we had TLEs subject. I learned that it's
important to measure things and not just guess, because if a
measurement is wrong, it could cause problems with the structure. We
need to be very careful around every corner, and using the right tool
would help a lot. That particular material should be valued.
3. What improvements can be made on the manipulative based on
your experience?
From what I've seen, the manipulative can be made better if people
work together and include everyone. It's important that this method
works for the students and that one student doesn't just take notes for
another.
HARNESS Invent your own manipulative for a topic of your choice. Draw your
design and label important parts of it. Then explain how to use your
invention.

Topic: Ration and Proportion

Name of Manipulative: Weighing Scale And Shapes

Design:

Instructions:
Students can learn about Ratio and Proportion by using the scale and
the shapes. By using these tricks, students can learn it faster and enjoy
the subject matter. Getting them to feel less anxious and pay more
attention to the subject. We can use these manipulatives by teaching the
students how to use the scales and how much each shape is worth. By
comparing how much each shape weighs, students can easily tell if the
shape/shapes on the other side of the scale is the same as the one on the
other side.
