BLOCK WORK CALCULATION

Consider we need to calculate the number of bricks required for making 1 m cube structure

• Consider the commonly used brick sizes below

1. 12” X 8 “ X 6 “(6inch brick)
2. 12” X 8” X 4” (4 inch brick)
3. 12” X 8” X 8” (8inch brick )
4. 7.5” X 2.1 “ X 3.5” (Modular brick)

Volume of 6 inch brick = 12X 8 X 6 = 576 cubic inch

Volume in cubic feet , divide the value by 1728 ( 1 cubic foot is equal to 1728cubic inches)
That is volume in cft = 0.333cft
Volume in m cube , divide the value by 35.314
=0.333/35.315 = 0.0094 m cube

Volume of 4 inch brick = 12X 8 X 4 = 384 cubic inch

Volume in cubic feet , divide the value by 1728 ( 1 cubic foot is equal to 1728cubic inches)
That is volume in cft = 0.222
Volume in m cube , divide the value by 35.314
=0.222/35.315 = 0.0063 m cube

Volume of 8 inch brick = 12X 8 X 8 = 768 cubic inch

Volume in cubic feet , divide the value by 1728 ( 1 cubic foot is equal to 1728cubic inches)
That is volume in cft = 0.444
Volume in m cube , divide the value by 35.314
=0.444/35.314 = 0.0126 m cube

Volume of modular brick = 7.5X 2.1 X 3.5 = 55.125 cubic inch

Volume in cubic feet , divide the value by 1728 ( 1 cubic foot is equal to 1728cubic inches)
That is volume in cft = 0.032
Volume in m cube , divide the value by 35.314
=0.032/35.314 = 0.00091 m cube

• For calculating the number of bricks used, we should consider the mortar thickness

Consider a 0.4-inch mortar thickness on both sides

The size of 6inch brick becomes 12.4” X 8.4” X 6.4”

Volume in cubic inches = 666.6

Volume in cubic feet = 0.385 cft

Volume in m cube = 0.011 m cube

There for the number of 6 inch bricks required for 1 mcube structure can be found out easily by dividing the 1mcube

Volume by the volume of 6 inch brick in mcube (considering mortar thickness)

Number of bricks required is = (1/0.011) = 90.9 Approx 91 bricks

• Similarly

4inch brick size (considering mortar thickness) 12.4” X 8.4” X 4.4”

Volume in cubic inch = 458.30

Volume in cubic feet= 0.265 cft

Volume in m cube = 0.0075 mcube

There for the number of 4 inch brick required for 1mcube structure is = (1/0.0075) = 133.33 Aprox 134 bricks

• 8inch brick size (considering mortar thickness) 12.4” X 8.4” X 8.4”

Volume in cubic inch = 874.94

Volume in cubic feet= 0.506 cft

Volume in m cube = 0.0143 mcube

There for the number of 8 inch brick required for 1mcube structure is = (1/0.0143) = 69.93 Aprox 70 bricks

• Modular brick size (considering mortar thickness) 7.9” X 2.5” X 3.9”

Volume in cubic inch = 77
Volume in cubic feet= 0.045 cft
Volume in m cube = 0.0013 mcube
There for the number of modular brick required for 1mcube structure is = (1/0.0013) = 769.23
Aprox 770-bricks

Brick size 19X9X9(with out considering mortar)

Volume in m cube = 0.19*0.09*0.09 = 0.00154m cube

Number of bricks required for 1 m cube structure = (1/0.00154) =649.35 Approx = 650nos bricks

By considering the mortar thickness 1cm thick adding in both direction

Size should be in 20X10X10

The volume in mcube = 0.002

Number of bricks required = (1/0.002) = 500Nos bricks
