Review!
 Ask: What do you call the names of things, animals, persons, places?
 Why is it important to know the names of persons, things, places, animals and
events?
 Do you have favorite names of persons? (Let them name their favorite persons)
 Do you also have favorite places to visit? (Let them name their favorite places)

 Say: My favorite place to visit is a mall! Have you been to a mall?

 Ask: What do you call the names of things, animals, persons, places?
 Why is it important to know the names of persons, things, places, animals and
events?
 Do you have favorite names of persons? (Let them name their favorite persons?
 Do you also have favorite places to visit? (Let them name their favorite places)

 Say: My favorite place to visit is a mall! Have you been to a mall?

Activity 2

In the Mall

Ana and Nina went to the mall with their mother Maria . First, they stopped and
looked at the hamsters, puppies, kittens, mice and birds. Next, they wanted to check out
the store with toys. They looked at the Barbie Dolls and Barbie Cars .

While they were working around, they saw their teacher, their neighbor and the
librarian at the mall! Mom, look! Our teacher is here, Teacher Marian! And our librarian
is also here. What a beautiful place to hang around! You don’t just see a lot of stuff you
like, but, you also meet people of different faces and ages.

After the girls bought the stuff they need, they left and went home. They were
exhausted and hungry. When they arrived home, their first stop was the kitchen. They
grabbed a snack and ate it in their bedroom. After resting for a while, the girls decided to
play outside.

 Let the learners answer the following motive questions:

1. Who went to the mall?


2. What did they see on their first stop inside the mall?
3. What else did they want to check out in the mall?
4. Who did they meet in the mall?
5. Do you also like to visit a mall? If you will be there, what are the things you want to
Buy?

ACTIVTY 3
FIRM UP Study and Learn!
 Let the learners read the story for the second time. Then let them list down the nouns
found in the story in the correct columns.

 Ask: What do you call the names of persons, places, things, animals?

 What are the two kinds of nouns?

 Nouns can be Proper or Common.

 Game Time!
A. Scavenger Hunt: Group the pupils into 2 groups it could be boys to girls. Create
questions that lead your class to different areas of the building by choosing the correct
pictures and names scattered from the floor. Paste them in the blackboard with the proper
column. The first group to finish will announce as the winner.

Example:
1. Cold, sweet and yummy. But if eaten all day, My tongue will freeze away.
(Ice Cream)
2. Amazing person who knows a lot in school. Without him/her, I won’t learn how to
read, write coz he/she is so cool.

vowels and consonants used as first letter in a given word, put a/an article to a given word to form
phrases and sentences.

EXPLORE  Review learners about English alphabets and ask:


-How many letters are there in all?
- How many are vowels? What are those?
- How many are consonants? Can you give examples?

 Ask the pupils to name the following picture and let them identify the beginning letter of the
word.

Example:
 Let the pupils give more example of words whose letter begins with consonants and vowels.

 When do we use the article a and an ?
*A – used before the words which begin with a consonant sound. And we used it to
introduce singular noun

Example:

*An – is used before the words which begin with a vowel sound. And we used it to
introduce

Example:

 How to use a and an in simple sentence.


1. Mother will prepare an egg dish.
2. It is a special dish.
3. When the egg is cooked, Mother will place it on a platter.
4. Mother taught me how to bake an egg pie.
5. A special rice cake has cheese and an egg inside it.

 Emphasize that these articles are only used before singular nouns.
Notice that the articles a and an are used before the given nouns like
notebook, book, apple and crayon. Do you know why?
               Because these nouns (notebook, book, apple, crayon) are singular,
countable  
               nouns.

The articles a and an are used before singular, countable nouns.

Article a is used if it follows a noun that starts with a consonant letter.


Example: 
He is a teacher.
He rides a motorcycle.
I give him a jacket for rainy days.

The nouns teacher, motorcycle and jacket start with the consonant letters t,
m and j.

Article an is used if it follows a noun that starts with a vowel letter.


Examples:
• That is an atis.
• I have not used an umbrella for months already..
• I saw an eagle at the zoo.
The nouns atis, umbrella and eagle start with vowel letters a, u and e.

 Present real objects and paste a flashcard with their names on it/
contextualized pictures with their names below it. Read the name one
at a time and ask them to identify the first letter of the word before
telling whether to use a or an before it.

 How many letters are they? Study the underlined letters in the Filipino Alphabet?

There are 2 letters in the Filipino alphabet, Ñ and NG, that are not found
in the English alphabet.

 What is the importance of learning English and Filipino Alphabets?

 Learning English and Filipino alphabets is important because letter patterns represent
sounds that will help us read and pronounce the letters and words correctly.

 Why is it important to know the English equivalent of words in Mother tongue or in Filipino?

 help us to become knowledgeable about the English and Filipino language as well as

 Languages like English, Filipino and Mother Tongue are used for communication.

Topic: Elements of the Story
Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding in identifying the elements of a story as a
guide in identifying important information, recalling the events, and/or retelling it to those who have
not read the story yet.
Performance Standard: The learners listen to a story, identify its elements, match and connect story
element to its example and write their own story observing the given pattern to further the knowledge
gained.
Learning Competencies: Identify and discuss the elements of a story
Learning Targets:
 Identify the elements of a story (theme, setting, characters and events).
 Answer the questions from the story listened to.
 Show the importance of having friends who are always there for us.

EXPLORE  Show a picture of animals that depicts friendship.






















 Example:

Let them tell about the picture and process their answers.

FIRM UP ACTIVTY 2
 Present the elements of a short story.
 Theme – is the main idea or the moral lesson of the story.
Example: Good people are rewarded , bad people punished. Always be
Kind.
 Characters – are the persons/animals involved in the story. This answers
the question “Who”.
Example : deer, turtle, crow, rat, hunter

 Setting – tells “where (place) and when (time)” the story happened.
Example: one summer day , in the rice filed , in the forest
 Events – are the sequence of events in the story.
a.Problem- This refers to the problems/challenges encountered by
the characters.
b.Solution- This reveals how the problem is solved.
c.Ending- This refers to how the story ends.

 Use the parts of the story “Four Friends and a Hunter” as example in
identifying the elements of a story.

 Guide the learners to come up with the following answers. Ask guide
questions or give clues so they will be able to correctly identify the elements
of the story.

Title: Four Friends and a Hunter


Theme: Teamwork can achieve great result. /Friendship means helping each other
especially in times of difficulties.
Characters: deer, turtle, crow, rat, hunter

Setting: one day, in the jungle

Events:

a. Problem: The deer was caught in a hunter’s trap.

b. Solution: The friends (turtle, crow, rat) did their part to distract the hunter and

help the deer escape. (You may state what each friend did.)

c. Ending: The deer escape from the hunter’s trap.

 Label the images whether it is real or made-up.

- Post different pictures and pupils will identify whether it is real or not.

- Read the definition of each word that you are going to encounter later

 Looking back at the pictures , ask them which of the following pictures are
real.
 Ask : Why d you think they are called real?
 What is the meaning of real?

 What id the difference between made-up and real?
 Let the pupil give more examples of made-up and real.
 Let the pupils listen to a story entitled “ The Golden Wallet “

 Let them answer the following questions

 Ask them what have they noticed in the story? Underlined words

A. Group Activity : Let the different groups perform the assigned task using the
the given materials. Each group have at least minutes to
perform the activity assigned to them.

Group 1 : Observe the images if it is real or made-up and paste them


Based in their appropriate column.
Group 2 : Read and understand each sentence if it is real or made –up.
Paste the strips of sentences in their correct column.

Group 3: Identify the real and made-up image inside the envelope
then paste it in their respective column. On the space
below , write at lest 3 sentences to differentiate them.

B. Read each statement and identify whether it is real or made –up. Write R if the
statement is real and MU if it is made – up.
